Do you feel bad bringing your kids shopping all day?

I was thinking of doing some running around today, but feel bad for the kids, it doesn't seem much fun for them?

I was going to go to a church sale where they do get to pick toys out since they are so cheap. Then I was going to go to Marshalls and check out the clearence racks and then Shoprite down the road is having triple coupon. If it was just me, I would do all of that in a second, but it is so boring for the kids and it would take up most of the day since everything is about 45 minutes away.

I feel bad that we haven't been doing much for them lately. We are going to the fair and a monster truck show on Friday, but during the week we don't actually go anywhere good. They don't complain about staying home and they really do keep themselves busy all day playing (not much tv). It has been so hot they don't want to go outside much unless we go to the pool which is about once a week.

My kids are with my most all of the time since we homeschool. They do not mind going into town (which is a 20 minute drive one way). They love jamming out with their Mp3 so the ride is not bad. They like to shop..especially if I go to somewhere during the shopping trip like Dollar Tree and let them pick something out.
I do have a tendence to spoil the kids too much and take them out to lunch or buy a DVD or something for them. But if I do not have the extra money ..I tell them ahead of time that I am just going to buy food and nothing else.
I tell the kids life is not all about having fun but also doing stuff that you have to do, such as paying bills, going shopping, etc.

I have 2 children and they are completely opposite where shopping is concerned! My 11yo DS likes to shop (usually pretty good at getting me to buy HIM something along the way) but my 9yoDD HATES to shop. She actually gets mad at me when I tell her we are going. I like forrestlayne's lesson a lot, about explaining the chores of life, I will definitely use that!!! Thanks for the insight!

No, I don't feel guilty. LOL Unless it's a "just for fun" shopping trip...Sometimes we just have things we have to do and sometimes it's easier to get it all done in the same day while you're already out.
I did feel terribly bad when I took my kids to Ikea. It was my first time there and I didn't realize exactly what I was getting into. I knew they had a play area for the younger ones but didn't know there was a time limit...and Ikea (at least this one) isn't the easiest place to get around. My 9 year DD was miserably bored, even though we were with my dad and sister....ahwell. They survived.

I don't feel guilty either. But they make me miserable all day if they don't want to be there. Mine are now old enough I just drop them off at the water park (they have season passes) and pick them back up later when I'm all done.

I don't take mine unless we are on our way home from somewhere and we have to stop for groceries. It's not fun for them or for me. I'm not into shopping either though so maybe that is why they don't like it.

I don't usually do the shopping all day for fun trips with my kids!! I would never be able to find anything!

On the flip side I do have them come with me to run errands. I spend my days entertaining them and I think its important for them to know the flip side of life. The one where if you want to get driven to softball or running practice then you get to see mommy have to renew the tag so I don't get pulled over for an expired tag! or you like eating? well where did the groceries come from.

Now that said I think it all depends on the age of your kids.......I didn't drag all mine through the grocery store at 4, 2 and newborn! Too much on anyone!! They do go with me now and have to help get stuff.

so did I answer the question or just confuse you?!?!?!

No, I wouldn't feel guilty. However, there is no way I could do it with my kids. They are 4 & 7 and drive me nuts in the store. I can't even think straight because I'm trying to keep track of them, listen to what they are saying (usually at the same time) AND shop. It takes so much effort to shop with them that I would just rather stay home.

I can shop with one of them -- doesn't matter which one, but it is next to impossible to shop with both of them.

Both of mine are good shoppers. We can make a big grocery store trip or spend the day store-hopping, they dont mind.

I make them go.. regardless of necessary shopping or not. (unless dh is home) I figure, I will sit at 478 soccor lessons, 72 karate classes, 40 minutes in the car line at school daily X 12 years. They OWE me good behavior, even if I want to wander aimlessly LOL

They are good shoppers.. I had no alternative but to take them with me EVERYWHERE when they were little, and it has continued.

They like the grocery store bunches!

And Target = ICEE
