You can usually order rings at any jeweler. I think Walmart still does them as well.

We got mine from a jewelry store. I just looked inside it and saw ACCR and looked it up, it's ArtCarved Welcome to ArtCarved.com

It was under $100, the metal is "Siladium". Don't care for gold and didn't want to spend a fortune on the other metal choices! Though they do have this in a gold color I think.

Are they cheaper there? If so, that would be an ideal alternative.
I'm with MyTime; those rings can be quite pricey!

I am not sure on pricing. I chose a cocktail ring instead of a class ring for graduation. My parents told me I could have a ring worth $XX (dont remember, been awhile) and I chose diamonds and sapphires in yellow gold instead of a standard class ring.

Very often they are cheaper and better quality from a jeweler. When I was in HS (many years ago <lol>), my parents bought my ring from a lcoal jeweler. They had very similar styles to the ones offered at the school, but the prices and the quality were better. My HS ring is Artcarved. Another benefit was that I got my ring much faster than the ones ordered through the school, so I got to wear mine most of senior year, while the kids who ordered theirs through the school didn't get them until the spring.

DH (we were not married at the time) bought my college ring. We ordered it through the college, but the prices were fairly reasonable. It is Jostens. Jostens has GREAT customer service and as I recall, a lifetime warranty. I had to send the ring back for some reason several years after I got it and they took care of whatever was wrong and sent it back quickly.

That reminds me, I need to have both rings resized. My fingers got bigger after DS#1 was born and none of my rings fit anymore.

This subject came up the other day between my neighbor and me. We each went in our houses and pulled out our HS rings. Hers "83" and myself "81"

Mine was ordered through Jostens

My son graduated 2 years ago and Wal Mart was much cheaper then the order form the school sent home. I think it was also Jostens. There were not as many choices on what to have on the ring, but I think it was about 1/2 the cost. My son only wanted the name brand one so I told him he had to pay 1/2 so he decided he didn't want one after all.

DS (11th grade) that I'm now getting one for bought home the paper in 7th grade also. I refused to purchase one then. I know when I was in 11th grade it was something special to look forward to, getting your class ring. I felt that a class ring in middle school was just silly. It would most likely end up lost anyways.

cjs216 - I kinda wish he didn't want one. But he has been looking forward to it since middle school.

From what little looking I have had time to do so far Walmart seems much cheaper than anywhere else. I mean, some of the rings he picked out of the Balfour catalog were right at $500. I find that just insane for a kid a ring. (Me now that's another story, lol kidding!)

I'll have to check out a few of our local jewlers.

Thanks for all the ideas.

we got the choice of a class ring or a letterman's jacket. I got the jacket and am glad I did. It's more of a reminder of who I was in high school and what I did then a ring would be. Plus, I wouldn't wear a class ring from high school past high school so you spend all that money to wear it half a year???? You can still wear a letterman's jacket at football games, etc when you go support your high school (if you do that) or my DD said she'll wear it for Halloween one year LOL

Do they really, really want a class ring?? We got my DD's at KMart, Walmart also sells them. DD has been in college for 3 years now, she never wears the ring or the letter jacket. They seemed so important at the time.

I think both of these things will see little use or wear when a child goes off to college. JMHO.

Class ring

Isn't there an alternative metal offered from the company that you have the pamphlet from?

My boys both ordered the "cheaper" metal, it was not 14 kt gold, which was a lot, lot cheaper. They got the colored sets that they wanted and the special icons on the sides that they wanted. Nobody could tell if they were "real" or not when they came. They were sooooo much cheaper than the 14 kt gold ones.

They wore them through high school and the freshman year at college, then that was it, they went in the jewelry boxes.

So I would say, don't spend a ton of money on them. Most people only wear them a few years, then they usually get wedding rings! ha ha!

we ordered from Jostens. My son wanted his in silver. When he told the saleperson that, she surprised the heck out of me and told him to get the fake silver one instead-it was less than half the price-I think it was right around $200 w/ everything he wanted. Also-there is free ring sizing and you can actually have the school name changed.

We got one last year. I chose NOT to go with Balfour through the school. Wal Mart was the cheapest, but we didn't like the style of them. My son VERY RARELY ever wants anything, so when he wanted the ring, we picked one out. We went to the mall and all the jewelry stores did their through artcarved. That's where we got his. I was able to get everything he wanted for just under $300. We moved soon after and a month after we had it, the stone fell out. Called artcarved and they replaced it. He wears his ring everyday. It's a big deal here where we are now because they don't order them here until senior year. Anyway he is getting our money's worth out of wearing it everyday so I know he really likes it and really wanted it. We researched online too before purchasing.

I did the same thing and it's pretty funny because mine is also diamonds with sapphires in yellow gold but its just a normal ring that i actually wear everyday!!! I am so glad that I did that because I would never wear a class ring so what's the point of buying something so expensive to sit in a box and be misplaced.
