Any football moms here?

Wondering if anyone has DSs - or DD for that matter! - that play football - Pop Warner, high school, etc?

DS2 loves football....and I enjoy it too. BUT, it's only August 11th and I'm already tired of daily practices!! I'm already sick of laundry piles and cleats, helmets, and pads all over the place. How about you? How do you organize the equipment and keep it out of the way?? Any laundry tips to get the musty smells out??

Last night, DS came home and told us that he had a new nickname - "Hollywood" - because he caught a couple of spectacular catches. He was pretty proud of that.

Please share your football mom stories

I am. My oldest DS is a senior this year. Luckily he drives and has his own car so now I don't have to run him to practice.

I also have a DS who is 10 so this is his forst year in tackle football and he is SO excited!! He has practice 4 nights a week which I don't mind. I love to watch football so sometimes I hang around and watch. This is their first year at tackling so it's interesting to watch. They're learning so much.

As for laundry I have found the only thing that really keeps my boys uniforms smelling good is Tide. The cheap stuff doesn't smell as good and doesn't clean the ground in stuff as well. I also like to hang them out to dry and when they're dry spray with Febreze. My oldest DS who is 17 absolutely loves when I do that . He said it smells awesome.

My oldest DS doesn't bring home any of his football stuff except the uniforms when they need washed. Since he is in high school, they have lockers at the stadium so they keep the helmets, pads, cleats in those all the time. My younger DS has it all here so we just founnd a corner to stack it in. At least it's out of the way.

I'm looking so forward to the games staring. I am a football nut. I love the games even when it's raining, snowing, freezing, hailing( that happened once last year). I go to all the games and cheer my head off.
I also do feed the team. I just love those boys to death. They're a great group. We make food for our team after the home games and also make food for the away team after our home games.

Enjoy it!! I know I look forward to Football season every year!!

I feel your pain on already being tired of all the stuff that goes on with football. My son practices 5 days a week. On the stain stuff I use Shout, I would almost swear by the stuff. Last year my son played in the mud with his "away" jersey, which of course was white. I actually had to soak it in Oxy Clean, the only time Shout didn't work. I wipe down his pads and spray them with Febreze, his helmet too ( he doesn't know that). I get burned out with practice, but it's all worth it when they start playing, I love football.

[color="RoyalBlue"]Tell Hollywood I send my congrats and keep up the good work.[color="RoyalBlue"]

My Ds will be 12 this month. He's been playing football(tackle) since he's 4. Our high school starts at 7th grade here. So he's practicing everyday with the highschoolers. It hasn't been all that positive for me, but he loves it. He missed practice the day they ordered their practice uniforms. The practice uniforms are UnderArmour shirts with the school logo and shorts with the logo. Since my DS wasn't there he got an extra set laying around in size Mens L. It's HUGE on him. So I called the place the school ordered from and we're paying out of pocket for his set ($50). He's too small to fit into the school-provided girdles and pants so we bought those too ($60). And practice starts at 8AM and ends anytime between 10AM and 11:30AM. That makes it really hard on my work schedule. Of course, DS isn't aware of my feelings on these subjects. He *loves* the game and gets up at 7AM for practice every morning with no problems. And they've been practicing since June 4.

Hope your boys have a GREAT season!!

Selena

Although I don't have any experience cleaning football uniforms, I do have more than my share of baseball stuff! I have found that the only thing that cleans white uniforms is to wash them with Cascade diswasher liquid instead of regular detergent. I have also used other brands of dishwasher liquid (Sunlight, etc.) and it works too. I wouldn't use it on colors, though, because it might bleach or fade them. Good luck to Hollywood!

He starts left guard on offense and and is starting inside linebacker on defense. He also rotates in on defense at nose. It's funny because usually nose is the larger boys. My DS is 5 ft 10 185 lbs. His best buddy is the starting nose and he is 6 ft 4 280 lbs. They use my DS there when they want speed and his buddy when they need size.

He LOVES linebacker. He was player of the year last year for their team and that was at linebacker. He got a nice big trophy and all for it. He isn't too thrilled at Guard but he's really good at it so he just gets stuck there anyways. I just got back from his scrimmage a little bit ago and man I see why they have him staring at guard. He laid out a couple of boys and he hit them so hard the crowd was all going OOOOO WOW!! He was so excited when he got home. He's been SO looking forward to hitting.

He came home took a shower and is now on his way to the Cleveland Browns game that's at 7:30 tonight. He can't get enough football. Just like his mom!!!
