No clues...

I used to have my hair colored (from a darker blonde to very light). I'd pick the lightest blonde color I could find and it would get done Friday night or Saturday morning, and over the weekend it was just about ORANGE but by Monday morning it had toned down and was blonde.

I read later (maybe on here, even) that it's the "ash" blonde coloring that will help with that, I have too much red in my hair for the "super duper ultimate blonde" lol

That stuff's pretty harsh on your hair so I don't think she should color it a third time so soon. Perhaps it's time for a professional? My husband colored his hair black because I like black hair and it WAS this deep mahogany red... his roots came in WHITE and he tried coloring it a couple times, once was a red color which of course only got the roots, then he tried something that removes color? And a color on top of it, never did look right, but once it grew out it's been brown That was years ago and it's still brown. But he has red facial hair

The profession was the game plan I would have had IF she would have said something to me about it but NOOOOOOOOO... had to let ehr best friend talk her into this. lord,.
I am calling tomorrow and find out if there is anything she can do. lol. I doubt it but i will call and ask anyways. guesss she will just go back to college with a totally different look.

A professional can strip it and fix it. I needed help in high school and they made me look normal again.

Thats what I would do also. Call a professional they will know exactly what to do. I have screwed mine up also. I've had it a purple color then another time it was literally falling out with every brush stroke. They fixed me right up each time.

I'm curious here......how much does it cost to get it fixed? I'll wager it doesn't come cheap!!

Talking licensed pro

I am a licensed professional.

If you were to come to me, I would Bleach it (frost) which removes the pigment/color from the hair. And if this is too light of a blonde shade, I would tone it as well.

Others will do it, But I will not. Color Remover / Striping ....The damaging effects are long term.

Both bleach and striping are damaging, but bleach is by far easier to handle.

Just my opinion.

*Note....In the future, if you have red undertones in the hair (such as strawberry blonde) do not use a color with "RED" in the name or the base. It will definately bring out MORE red in the hair. Also, when using a darker color to cover up, you need to be particularly careful, because NATURALLY light hair will grab and go darker than intended.

Try washing it a few times with Dawn dishwashing liquid.
And use a GOOD conditioner!!!
And a hot oil treatment can't hurt either!

I'd bleach it as well. Go to Sally Beauty Supply store and get a bleaching kit. Plus the gals in there can explain to you how to do it right. And yeah if it is too light, you can try and light brown color. Then make sure she has some good conditioner cause the hair won't be as soft as before.

Let's see this was about 9 years ago while I lived in NC. I'm thinking between the correcting the color and the special condition it was somewhere around $150. The conditioner alone was $3 a pack and I had to use one ever day for a couple of weeks. But, my hair was in better condition that it had been in years.

I'm a hairstylist for 16 years. First off.....that lady at the supply place has no idea what she's talking about (most don't to be honest!). What should have been bought was an ash color at the same level. Most ash colors have a greenish base, and will cancel out red. Going darker will not get rid of red. It is the HARDEST color to get rid of.
But yes, definately get a color correction done by a professional. Do NOT attempt doing this at home!
The best way to lighten up would be a bleach cap...may take longer, but better for the hair. Be prepared for a nice shade of orange. Then a toner can be applied.
Buy a good conditioner!!!
I love doing color corrections. Gets my brain thinking and love the before and afters. Alot goes into color...it's not slap the color on and thats the exact color it's gonna be. It's alot of pigments counteracting with each other to get what you want. hard to explain....but anyway, Good Luck!

I did the exact same thing a few months back. I thought I was buying a chocolate brown color hair dye & ended up with jet black hair, it looked like someone plopped a wig on my head, it (I) was creeepy looking. I called a beautician & was told that there was nothing that I could do but have the color stripped professionally at the cost of around $150.00 & the results may not even come out good. I decided to buy 2 boxes of the blondest blond dye that I could find, used both boxes one after another & my hair was back to normal (actually people said that they liked the color more than my natural color) & it didn't damage my hair at all. I think if your daughters hair was pretty healthy to begin with that that route for her should work fine. Of course if her hair is very damaged I might see a professional but even the products that they would use on her hair would be very damaging.
