Anyone else spend some quality family time in the basement - tornado warning!

This is the second time in 2 weeks that we have had tornado warnings. Last week one touched town 10 miles to the north, today it was 10 miles to the south but didn't touch down. I don't need the third time! The kids have dealt with it well. The basement is our family room so they are down there a lot anyway. And the candles a such a nice touch!

We've had so much rain and high winds, but no tornado. It is raining now and how been for three days in a row. Hope we don't see any flooding.

Thankfully no. When we lived in TN we had one touch down a few miles away. Our safe room was a tiny bathroom (no windows). Squeezing 2 adults, a toddler and some food, water, etc in there wasn't pretty.

I remember when my kids were 14 and 7. We had those straight line winds that really messed up the town. We were in the basement and my oldest wanted to go out and watch it and my youngest was sitting there saying "we're going to die". So I pointed at the oldest and said YOU ARE STAYING HERE-YOU ARE NOT GOING OUTSIDE and to the youngest "we are NOT going to die". Pretty funny in hindsight. Such extremes! lol it was kind of scary though!
If you have smaller children and they all have a flashlight you can play "flashlight tag" on the celing. We used to do that sometimes in bed at night using the ceiling. Another fun distraction if the lights go out!

Grew up in WI so I know what you are going through. In fact, the day before my ds was born we had one touch down near my house. My dh had gone for a run before the storm hit. So I was in the basement by myself thinking I am going to have this baby in the basement. But the storm passed, my dh came home (he rode out the storm at his brother's house ) and then we went to the hospital.

I haven't seen the cloud pictures yet. I liked the interview with the jogger who dove in the ditch. SOunds like it will be a confirmed tornado too. And of course it's thundering now!

No time in the basement here except to get things moved to higher ground. I live in an area that is prone to flooding. And I dont mean a foot or two in the base ment. I mean like 7 feet!!! People loose everything in these floods.
Just sitting here crossing fingers...
