Wink Kool-aid pickles - what unusual things do you like to eat?

I was reading an old People magazine on the crosstrainer this morning and came upon a picture and little blurb of something quite unusual (and gross!) to me. Have you heard of it? Apparently it's a Mississippi favorite.

A Sweet So Sour: Kool-Aid Dills - New York Times

Do you eat anything that others might find strange? Regional favorites that might surprise others?

Growing up, there was a family down the street that introduced us to Peanut Butter and Mayonaise sandwiches.....not nearly as gross as they sound! Personally, I prefer the extra zest of Miracle Whip.

Funny thing is that I was talking to one of my deployed Marine adoptees. He grew up in the Buffalo area, and he eats PB&Mayo sandwiches too....so maybe they're not that strange after all.

I can't believe you said that about the PB & M. One of my favorite sammys of all time is peanut butter, lettuce and mayo (hellmann's). I used to get made fun of all the time but whenever anyone was brave enough to try it, they liked it too.

Maybe it's a northern thing, I'm from Jersey.

Oh squeak - that makes me sick just to think about it....raw meat!#@*#@

Same Marine and I drove from NC to Jaxville, FL and tried those boiled peanuts along the way.....those were just wrong. Icky pooh. LOL

Folks in New England eat lobster whole....which was weird for me coming from the MidWest where lobster meant the tail stuffed nicely with crabmeat or something. People here suck the green stuff off the meat......and when there are eggs.....eeewwwwwwwwww! I've never gotten my head around eating whole organisms.

To each their own, I guess!

Love love love PB and Mayo (cept it has to be Miracle Whip). DH literally gags every time I eat it, he makes me stay in a separate room. LOL, it's fun to chase him with it. I'm surprised so many like these, I've only known 1 other person that liked them.

On the other hand DH and the boys eat pigs feet. Which to me have got to be the nasty things on earth. I refuse to even touch them to put them in a grocery cart.

PB and tomato sandwiches are good as are PB and onion sandwiches. If you think yuck, try it! I knew a guy who would eat his panakes with mustard and grape jelly. I don't know if you think this is gross or not but we alway poured ketchup into our bean soup when we were kids. Its the only way I like ketchup on anything.

Mmmm love those pickled pigs feet.

I like Better Made potato chips on my vanilla ice cream. Covered in Hershey's syrup. Then when it gets mushy mix it all together.

I use to live in Mississippi and my parents still do and I've NEVER heard of pickles and kool-aid. Dh was born there and lived there until we moved to Texas and he's never heard of it either.

We do eat fluffernutter sandwiches though! It's marshmallow cream and peanutbutter mixed together. YUUUUMMMMMYYYY!!!!

For what its worth, the article stated: "Typically, Kool-Aid pickle fans were born some time after Bill Clinton moved into the White House"....I know that wouldn't apply to me....LOL

I just love french fries dipped in Frosty's too! I did it one time by accident, and I've been hooked ever since. My oldest DD always made fun of me, and then got brave enough to try and it, and now whenever we're out she'll ask if there's a Wendy's close by

By the way, there should be a dislaimer on this thread......Not for those with a weak stomach!

I love chocolate covered potato chips (I usually melt a hershey bar and use the melted chocolate as a dip for my Lays chips) I also use ranch dressing as a dip for fries. I add cheese and garlic to my spaghetios (a few people told me that was odd ) and my BF said my chocolate coke is disgusting (its just Hersheys syrup in regular coke, it taste good in cherry coke too )

Chocolate Coke is great!
My kids used to put potato chips in their sandwiches.
DH has to have mayo on his grilled cheese.
Last night at a pot luck dinner I put blacberries from a cobbler on a warm brownie and was sure I had died and gone to Heaven!!!!

You guys at some weird things! Honestly, nothing anyone has mentioned even sounds good to me LOL

I like fries dipped in mustard. I prefer hot horseradish mustard but plain of' French's will do. I don't do ketchup

I like wine vinegar (strong, homemade red wine kind) on my sliced turkey. Can't have turkey without it! I take my own bottle with me if we are going to someone else's house DH thought I was NUTS when he saw me do it as he always used gravy. Now, the bottle is used twice as fast because now he loves it that way more than me

I like vanilla ice cream with frosted flakes on top. This year my niece introduced me to oreos dipped in peanut butter. I also like to eat corn on top of my mashed potatoes, but I WON'T eat mayonnaise mixed with anything. YUK!

As a kid my dad introduced me to PB & mayo sandwiches, I liked them then, but not now. My mom also make me PB & cucumber sands., again don't like them anymore. I also don't like mayo on anything.

I like to dip my grilled cheese or fish or chicken in ketchup or mustard.

I've never had boiled peanuts before.

And as for clam juice...gross! That is just stinky stinky stinky

Mmm. When we were little sometimes we would have these... but with regular size marshmallows (a lot of sticky kids when you get done though!)

I like pineapple and velvetta sandwiches.

Peanut Butter and Hot Dogs....I introduced my DS to them this week now he likes it too.

As a kid I ate PB, Miracle Whip, lettuce and cheese sandwiches.

My other favorite was Miracle whip and seasoned salt sandwich.

I saw the kool aid pickles on Alton Brown Feasting on Asfault(sp) last night...I don't think I could taste that one.

I wonder if the koolaid pickle is similar to sweet/sour candies that kids seem to enjoy....like sour patch kids, etc. it just looks rude to me, LOL.

my paternal grandfather used to eat fat sandwiches - slap the fat cut off a roast between two slices of buttered bread. ugh. (he died of heart disease - no wonder)

OH, that just reminded me - my grandmother used to take all the fat off steaks or whatever and then cut it up into small bite sized pieces and fry it till it was crispy. I used to love it as a kid when she'd do that. It makes me sick to think about now. She did NOT have heart issues - she died of pnuemonia complications...
