Wish me luck! Job ~~~UPDATE~ I got it!~~~

I start tomorrow. Thanks for the well wishes.

I have subbed that position three times now, and I am subbing again Monday.

Well, I got called in for an interview with the principal and super!

I was told when I go in for the interview, talk about my involvement with all I did at the school (Book Fair Chair person, girl scout ass. leader, kindergarten round-up, etc.)

Well when I got in there, I never had to say anything. The principal talked the whole time telling the Super about everything I did/do at the school as a parent volunteer! It was great. I just nodded and replied when asked a direct question.

They are hiring two aides. (enrollment is up) And I am one of them.

It still has to be approved by the board tomorrow night. If they decide to just take one, they will take the other girl. (She has a teaching license). But everyone as told me, once they decide something, the board hardly ever goes against it.

So looks like I will start Tuesday.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

I applied for my first job in 14yrs.

I was only going to fill out an application to Sub, when I found out that a friend of mine just quit like 10mins before I got there.

So I applied for her job. Teachers aide for 1st grade. Part time but I would be in the school system with the kids.

I don't really NEED to get a job, I just felt like the timing was right to do something.

I know there are several people up for the job and it is a long shot. But I did it anyway. Who knows what will happen.

I was so nervous filling out all the papers. It was silly.

I too have only worked 1 out of the last 13 years. I was a teachers asst. I LOVED that job, it just got to be too far for me to drive & they were gonna start charging me to bring my little one there, it used to be free for teachers. I need to go out & find a job ASAP. I feel so silly, I don't have a resume, I had kids early & never went to college, boy am I regretting that now. Being 35 years old & having to start at an entry level position & paying for after school care is gonna is scary. ~ Good Luck to You!!

I had kids early and no college also. No resume. I figure with at the school I am at least attempting something.

I volunteer at the school so much anyway, I may as well be on the payroll. lol

sending good job vibes your way!!!!!

sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat-I haven't really "worked" in 16yrs. and just applied for a "real" full-time job earlier this week. I didn't even bother to post a resume, but I put in a good cover letter. I told DH that I don't really look good on paper. I just hope I can get in for an interview-if so, I think I can nail it! I really want this job! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Good Luck Can I ask those of you who are teachers assistants a question, how did you get started doing that job? I am interested in becoming a teachers aide because eventually I would like to return to school for a teaching degree to teach pre-school to 1st grade. I just dont know where to start and thought if I get in to a posistion as an assistant that could be a start. Right now I have an associates and work as a paralegal for the state and this job has more drama than a soap opera

I worked as a teachers aid in a church pre school. My sister was working there & had to quit to work a full time job, so she told them the bad new of her leaving, but she had a great replacement for her, so thats how I got the job. I would love to get on at a public school, just havent got there yet. I hear subs in my area get $50 a day to be a sub. teacher, I don't know what asst. teachers get.

I too have a paralegal degree....but choose to work at my children's school as an Math Aide. I LOVE my job and I love being there with my two boys all day long. Summers are wonderful...as is Christmas break and Spring break. I got my start by volunteering at my children's school the first year we attended...then at the beginning of their second year there I was asked by the prinicpal if I was interested in a position with the school. It has worked out great and I have just started my third year at the school.

Well I have a small update.

The school called to see if I would sub Tuesday for that position. I guess they are trying out the people that are interested in the job different days next week to see who meshes well with the teachers and how well they fulfill the duties.

They have 2 aides for 4 teachers. (1st. grade) They also have cafeteria duty. So it shouldn't be to hard. I think that I will do well. I know all the teachers, I have been in charge of the book fair for 3yrs now, (just passed that off). So I got to know a lot of the teachers. Plus two of them my kids had. So I think I have a good shot on meshing with all of them well.

Plus I have been volunteering there for almost 5 yrs. So I know at least who all the teachers are and several of them on a personal level. As a matter of fact the Kindergarten teacher that the kids had gave me a reference.
3yrs ago, the principal offered me a job as an aide as well, but I turned that one down cuz my dd was just starting k. Now just feels like the right time to attempt it.

THere do seem to be a lot of us in the same boat. There is a part time job available at a local dentist office I'm considering applying for. It is near to Faith's grandma who said that anytime I wanted to get a job she would watch her. I hope I have the nerve!! Good luck to those of you reentering the work force!!!!

My daughter started working in the after school program at school.
She did a great job and everyone liked her.
When she found that there was an aide's position open, she applied and got the job.
I think you just have to make yourself known to the staff of a school, especially the principals and go from there.

How exciting. I needed to read all this today. I ama graphic designer have been out for seven years raising the kids. I am trying to find a job. Not as easy as I thought when a college down the road pumps out graphic students like rabbits. I may have a job as a phone surveying at a local company. I'll take it. It will get my foot in the door and our family will get ahead with the bills. The best thing is I will be home before the bus gets home and the kids won't even know that I was gone all day! Good luck to everyone!
