| DS given chix pox booster/ he already had chix pox
My 12 year old needed a tetanus shot per his school nurse to be allowed back in school Tuesday. According to their records, this was the only immunization he was lacking. Sent DH to the Dr with DS for said shot, then I see he has two bandaids on. What was the 2nd shot ?, I ask. DH tells me they gave him the chicken pox booster This kid had the chicken pox at 18 months, a full, over-the top case of them. This is reflected in his medical records. He never had the original chicken pox vaccine. DH doesn't have any answers about why this was done. I have to add that they previously screwed up on my DD's immunizations. DH also tells me that they wanted to give him one more shot of something, bu they were all out of it. Until I can talk to the Dr next Monday, does anyone have any insight into the possible problems this presents, and what might be the other shot they want to give him? |

Until I can talk to the Dr next Monday, does anyone have any insight into the possible problems this presents, and what might be the other shot they want to give him?[/quote] The other shot may be a Meningitis vaccine. I took my DDs to the health dept to get the Gardasil vaccine (my doctor's office doesn't carry the Gardasil vaccine) and they needed Hep A, Meningitis, and Tetanus as well as Gardasil. The nurse said they would need a Chicken Pox vaccine (they were all out) even if they had Chicken Pox, which they did, but it is not documented. I wouldn't foresee any complications to getting the vaccine. Hope this helps. |

I would guess the Meningitis vaccine. My 11 year old was just given that vaccine a couple of weeks ago. They are recommending for 11 year olds through college nowadays, since there have been recent breakouts. last year a college student died here of it and there have been many reported cases across the US recently. As far as the Hep vaccine our schools here require the series prior to entering school at K.

I don't believe anyone would need a chicken pox booster if they already had the live chicken pox itself. I know there is a new shot for shingles which is a recurrent form of chicken pox however I read they are only giving it to people 60 and older. Wish I could get that one as I've had shingles and it was awful!!! I agree that the other could be meningitis or Hep A. My son has received both and he is 18. But I see no reason for them to have given a chicken pox booster and would call them on Monday and tell them how unhappy I was with this!!!

DS2 had a checkup this week and was given the meningitis shot as well. I was not aware of that one. DS1 who is headed to college next year has not had it though! cj/
