We had it for several years under my husband because he is just about 60. Truthfully, I haven't received anything that I can use from them. We don't go on vacations or spend overnight at hotels. I did searches already when we were dreaming and could have found better prices on our own. Like other poster said you do get a magazine and like a newpaper with info in it. Alot of that is advertising. You can get types of health insurance through them, but haven't checked into that. I did go about the car insurance, but ours was much much cheaper that their estimate for us, and the same with the home insurance. I am thinking when ours runs out next year that I don't think I will renew, but maybe it would be better for you. The articles in it also seem to cater to the people with big bucks, and that just isn't us either. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I started getting thier mail when I was 50 but at that time, saw no use for it. Life changes. I retired on disablity since then. My fixed income is l-o-w I still didn't see any reason to become a AARP member since it all looked like Travel discounts and I could not afford to travel. Now I am 60. About 3 or 4 years ago I decided to check out the car ins. AARP Hartford came out $100 less per year for full coverage than the regular Hartford I was using. So I joined AARP and switched. The second year my AARP Hartford car insurance cost was actually cut in half! I couldn't believe it so I called. They said it was not a mistake, that was the cost. It's still that low. So I've been VERY happy about it. It's really saving me money on my car insurance! Many of my neighbors have found the AARP Supplimental health ins from AARP is very good (for them) when supplimenting thier Medicare. AARP also in among the companies offering the prescription ins you can take to go with your Medicare. |
