Obviously the internet is a tremendous resource. What curriculum you choose toatally depends on your son's personality.

We used "Switched on Schoolhouse" and also the 'LifePacs" through Alpha Omega. It's a wonderful program that will keep him right on track, if not ahead. They offer a full curriculum, including Bible. We tried several curriculum before we landed on this one..........

This is a great curriculum even if your son is not completely motivated. There are 10 LifePacs per subject, so it's easy to see your progress.

Good Luck, this is a huge undertaking, but well worth the effort. My DD is a homeschool graduate in her 2 nd year of college and my DS is a homeschool "graduate" with a GED starting his first year at a Bible college.

Your local library might be a great resource. There are lots of homeschooling families that come into our local branch

Check with you county office of education (that is how it should be listed in your phone book--or just call the local school district office and ask for the number for the county office of educaiton). They can get you the information you need.

Maybe you would like a virtual school since you haven't homeschooled before.

Look into k12.com or connectionsacademy.com They are an interesting option if you need to transition into homeschooling.

we have homeschooled for 8 years...

you need to check the requirements for homeschooling in your state ... that will also give you a guideline as to what forms / procedures you need to complete in order to start homeschooling your son.

You can find every single state's requirements at http://www.hslda.org

Good luck.

Just curious about something - did the school system mention that they would provide a tutor for his homebound instruction? I think they are required to educate your son - I know in my state your son is entitled to a "Free Appropriate Public Education" no matter what. This means that the public school is still required to provide instruction for your son, even if they have expelled him from the actual public school he was attending.

Of course, you may have chosen to homeschool. Just checking to make sure you know that you had options.

We used "Switched on Schoolhouse" by Alpha Omega Resources. We loved it because it was on the computer. It kept up with the grading and everything. It comes complete with books and reading sources. You can choose the grade level you want to work on and choose the subjects. I used it for my sons throughout high school.

I'm not sure what your laws are in your state but they vary from state to state. You'll have to go thru the proper channels to homeschool. You can't just say I want to homeschool and do it. It also takes lots of discipline. Have you thought of hiring a tutor?

have you looked into correspondence school? I know DS was a couple of credits short to graduate and we were able to make it up that way.

I think you need to consult with the State Department of Education on this one -

I believe this is the law across the United States, but you should check with your own state's department asap: Your son is ENTITLED to a "free appropriate public education" no matter what - even if he is homebound.

The school system needs to provide for your son - this is their responsibility. Usually this is in the form of a tutor for approx 2 hours per day. Or your state might have a provision where he could attend the night school there. But find out what they can offer - it is still their job to provide an education for your son, regardless of whether he is not allowed into the school building right now.

Keep us posted!
