personal internet scams....

The other post re: how close we all feel to one another here got me thinking. Has anyone else ever be "taken" by someone they met online?

When we first got the internet about 11 years ago, we "met" several ppl on a chat room that was very easy to access. One of those ppl claimed to be a young girl. She was going through some terrible times, and since I had children her age, I felt connected. Boy, did we get suckered. After several months she said she was pregnant, then there were problems with the pregnancy, she got kicked out of her house, wanted someone to take the baby. This was just about the time we were wishing my DH hadn't had a vasectomy. I actually talked to her and another woman involved on the phone. I had their phone numbers.....Then one day, I call, no answer, ever again. This other woman quit answering her phone. To this day, I have no idea what happened, but it was humiliating for us. We had started telling ppl about it because it really seemed like she was going to come stay with us. How stupid could we be.......We feel so stupid, we don't even mention it to ourselves, it never comes up, and probably never will.

Looking back, we should have known better. We just weren't internet savvy at ALL!!! I'm really an honest person, and forget that other ppl lie.

I have never been taken, but I sure get enough of those emails that promise me money.
I just have to "send money' to Nigeria to get it.
Like we all don't know about that.

yes, when I first started trading, 2 different girls scammed me and apparently some others also. The only thing is, one of the girls's trades I was waiting on was a new item that was going to be an Easter gift for my son! I was so mad.

Me either. But there are people out there who actually believe the Nigeria scheme. Remember the pastor's wife in Tennessee who killed her pastor husband last year and it was discovered that she was in one of those Nigeria scheme? I guess there are still some really gullible people out there!!
