Open doors w/air conditioning on

Noticed a truly irresponsible thing today. Boss gave me the day off, so i went to an outdoor outlet mall.

While I didn't count, almost 1/2 of the stores had the doors propped open. Lest you think I am at the north pole, the temperature today was in the low 90's so this made no sense.

would you:

a) keep walking
b) ask why
c) shut the doors and keep walking
d) ask at the facility mgr office why

I will bet I can tell you why: It is over 100 degrees here for the last 5 days straight. So, our classrooms, which has the temperature controlled by the district offices located over 5 miles away from our site, have the air conditioner going full blast. Our rooms get so cold that the kids and teachers have to bring sweaters to wear on these over 100 degree days....OR we can open the doors to let some of the cold air out when it gets too unbearable. Probably the same with those stores.

Open doors probably translate to more sales. If a customer walks by a store that has a cool breeze blowing from it, I'd bet they're more likely to slow down and say, "Let's go in here!"

It wouldn't even occur to me to ask why. I figure if they took the time to prop the door open, they probably have a reason.

This irritates me too. I just want to say hey, close your doors and lower your prices a bit, ha ha. I am guessing it's to get 'more' people in the door too though. That's what I've always thought anyway. But I do totally think it's very wasteful and it does bug me.

What I always wonder is what the costs are to run those open freezer and refrigerator cases in grocery stores.

Do dairy products kept in those types of cases go bad before the ones in the cases with doors?

This is common practice in Miami. You walk by the store and you are blasted by cold air. I usually have to bring a sweater with me when I go shopping in a mall. It's 90+ outside the store and 65- inside the store. Sometimes I think it so cold so you think about buying that jacket, sweater or any cold weather clothes in the middle of the summer.

And yes I do close the door to the store because it is such a waste!
