disappointed with Spanx

Finally got to Lane Bryant yesterday and picked up the Spanx Higher Power for $34.

While I was certainly not expecting miracles with this product, I was still disappointed.

I specifically wanted them to wear with my outfit for DD's wedding next month, but I really can't see much difference.

And they're not as comfortable as I thought they would be.

For those that don't know what you're talking about.......

Higher Power Body Shapers by SPANX

What is your wedding outfit like? It's supposed to thin, smooth and shape and not meant for thin or clingy fabrics. You're actually the first I've ever heard of using Spanx. I heard about them on Oprah.

I used it for my son's wedding (well, just about every lady in the wedding party did). It did what it was supposed to do for me. It sort of evens out your body shape and makes you look smooth and tight. You could bouce a penny off my butt!! LOL!!

BTW, OP, what size do you normally wear? I wear a size 12. I'm not sure what it's supposed to do if someone is really overweight. I mean, the buldges have to go somewhere. don't they?

What I bought, though, was called something else. I'll have to look. But I bought mine at JC Penney and it worked really well.

Yup, I'd probably look like a muffintop.

Is this supposed to be like a new girdle?

I was searching for a bra that was comfortable, and fit well enough to keep backfat from spilling out. I am not at all heavy, am very thin, but after losing a lot of weight I have extra skin in the the bra area that makes finding a decent bra difficult.
I went to Nordstrom's and the saleslady (after bringing me about 7 or 8 different bras) suggested I try one of the Spanx deals that is a bit like a leotard (one piece, shoulder straps). She swore it would do the trick.
But it was horrid! Worse than the worse fitting bra I'd tried on. Even the saleslady agreed it made things look worse.

I bought Spanx years ago on QVC when they first came out. I found that although they are unbelievably uncomfortable, they really did the job. I wear a size 10. One tip - I had to size up.

Not made for a really overweight person??? Im confused.....she bought them at Lane Bryant and if they are in her size then clearly they are made for someone who does not have a "perfect" body.

Also, isn't this the infomercial that puts that size 24 woman into these things and she magically turns into a size eighteen? I know thats not perfect but, it probably helped her a whole lot!!! I have seen the infomercial and I think this things come in sizes of like XXL right?!?!
Their sizing chart is for someone who weighs up to 325 pounds.

Welcome to Spanx by Sara Blakely: Official Site

Good luck OP, I hope you find something that works....I have a super large top half and have to wrestle the girls down for certain types of dresses!!

Maybe she bought the wrong size. Another poster said she bought at 'size up'. OP, go back to the store and get another size till it looks right on you.

I LOVE MINE! This was all I wanted for my birthday. I got two pairs. My husband also bought a size up for me (he said that he would rather me have to return them for being too big than for too small) and that size is perfect for me. They really even me out. My post pregnacy body is hordid and uneven - they really help me look like I am no longer expecting. I got "higher power". I find that mine are very comfortable and I often forget that I am wearing them.

Just my two cents...anyway I guess the moral is buy (or try) a size up. Also as an FYI I have seen the products labeled with a diffrent name, but by the same person with a simler package at Target less expensivly.

I agree on the size up. I wear an 8-10 pant and 4-6 dress and I normally purchase a large or even extra large. I also have purchased the flexees in the past for some of the wrap dresses. I like that they hide the dimples and make you appear to look toned. I don't think they are as comfortable as regular undies, but they are more comfortable than the thongs that I tried
