SO: What age are they safe...

Okay, so mom's take their 9 year old boys in restrooms with them. If Dad is out with a 9 year old girl should HE take the girl into the men's restroom with him? And if you think it is different, why?

If it is a single and he can lock the door, then yes. If they are all enclosed stalls, then I say yes. If there are urinals in the open, then I say no unless they can make sure it's empty and stand outside of the door to explain his daughter is inside.

I think it is different only in that women's restrooms have enclosed stalls so you're not sitting in the open for all to see while you wipe, change your tampon, etc.

Maybe this is one of those double standards?? You know, it's okay for a guy to sleep with an army of women, but not okay for a lady to sleep with an army full of men.

BE careful talking about anything regarding what you use for menstruation on this board!!!

okay seriously, My DD isn't going into the mens bathroom with her dad....and my nephews aren't going into the womens bathroom.

My DD would DIE if she ran into a classmate that was in the bathroom with her!!!!(shes 10)

I understand moms that you are trying to protect them but, we also have to teach them how to handle themselves in certain situations. I mean this is why we have 10, 11 and 12 year old kids STILL going with strangers to "look for the lost puppy".

Now I don't let my nephews or cousins (younger) go into the mens restrooms by themselves without me checking it out first (please read my previous post on the other thread) !!!

But, keep your boys outta there when they are like 8 and older! (I know there are exceptions to every rule) like if your child is wheelchair bound.

I can not speak for the rest of you, but when my son was around 10 - 12 years old and I would drive the turnpike to visit my sister and would stop to use the RR my son would be embarassed but I would stand at the men's room door and yell out asking if it was was empty. After doing this a few times and all guys had exited and other guys waiting ouside to go in I told my son he could go in and I stood with the door open until he exited the RR. I could not see anyone doing their thing, but no real men wanted me standing there looking in. THose waiting on the ouside of the door gave me dirty looks and I just stared back at them with my eyes saying, "If you've got the nerve go ahead and go in, but if you go in ...so will I until my son is finished."

Are they EVER safe?

I thought my boys 9 & 10 were safe to go together into the men's room, then yesterday I read where some weirdo followed a 15 year old boy into the men's room at Wal-Mart and raped him... Ladies, you may just see me with two large boys in tow...

My son is 6, so he still goes into the womans restroom with me and will continue to until I feel he is ready to go by himself. I think its a personal decision and everyone has to make up there mind what is best for there children. My son has Aspergers, so he will be going in with me for a looooooooooong time. However, I do try to use the family bathrooms if they are available. Many more stores are offering them, which is a nice change!

My ds is now 26. But when he was younger I let him go on the restroom when he was about 7. I stood outside and talked with him the entire time he was in there. I just stood with my foot in the door. If he would of ever stopped talking I would of been in there in a second. He would tell me stories or we would just talk. When dd got where she did not feel comfortable coming into the stall with me anymore. She would stand out side my stall door but she had to have her foot inside my door so I could see it at every second. And of course she would talk also. I never had to ask her questions she loved to talk, so it wasn't like she would ever be quiet anyway.

In order to do this DH would actually have to take the kids somewhere without me. Since that is never going to happen I do not have to worry about it.

If by some strange twist of fate DH does do this (and DD is much older then 2) I would say to let her into the womans room, keep his foot in the door and talk to her while she goes.

When I first started to read your post, I thought you were going to say "My ds in now 26, and I still go with him." LOL
