Spinoff: Child Walking Incorrectly

The other thread about the 11 month old walking incorrectly got me thinking about my teenage daughter. My 13 year old walks the opposite of pigeon-toed....her feet go slightly outward as she walks. She swears that she cannot straighten them to walk. I do not recall her walking like this when she was younger; it seemed to develop as she got a little older. Anyone have a child that walks like this and can or should it be corrected?

I would think that this would definitely be something you should discuss w/ your pediatrician or family docter. If need be they can recommend a good pediatric orthopedist.

Talk to your pediatrician. She may need shoe inserts to help her correct. Look at the souls of ther shoes and see if there is a wear pattern (like rubbing off one side) Sometimes Physical Therapy can help.

My 12 yr old began in-toeing in the last year and a half. I don't know anything about your d/d's growth, but the pediatrician believes for my d/s the change in his walk was probably bought on by rapid growth & weight gain during a big spurt, that he would have been genetically pre-disposed towards this. None of my other kids have gone through this, but my sister was seriously in-toeing from birth.
I have spoken to an orthopedist who agrees and basically says there is nothing to do but wait and see if it self-corrects through puberty. I am not certain I agree--and am looking for other answers/treatments, but thought I'd share this.
