I saw bits and pieces of the show and was outraged by that foul mouth comic, Sarah Silverman!!!! Her vulgar jokes were completly disgusting. MTV forgets that their target audience are alot of children, preteens, teens and her brand of humor is completely WRONG! I felt that Britney was set up to fail especially given that Sarah Silverman was using her and her children as target practice. I totally agree with you happy2behere. |

haven't watched it yet...recorded it but I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Silverman was vulger. THat is who she is. I don't think MTV targets children and preteens...at least I wouldn't let mine (if they were that old) watch it. Teens...yes but at over 30, I still enjoy the VMA's

I like Sarah Silverman. I don't mind that she is vulgar....in fact, I like it....a lot. I also don't think she said anything horrible about Britney's kids....it was a comment about Britney as a mother. Not an attack on her children. The VMAs are not tageted to children. Teens maybe, but MTV has even gotten away from their "teen programing" as has been targeting college age and above for the last 10 years - hence the creation of the Real World, Remote Control, various dating shows, and even the Rock the Vote promotion. True, they still have shows like Laguna Beach and My Sweet 16 - but, if you check the demographic of who is really tuning into those shows, it is people in their mid-20s and women in the 28-35 catgory. The Hills is one of the most TiVoed programs for that category. When I was a teenager, I had friends who's parents wouldn't allow their kids to watch MTV. That is what all those Parental Controls are for. Frankly, I wish MTV would get back to playing more videos....but, if you compare the 2 mins of Sarah Silverman to half the videos in heavy rotation now, I'm sure you would find a lot more vulgarity on the flip side. |

Didn't watch, and would never since I am not familiar with most of the artists (if we have to call them that). I did read that Britney bombed big time with her performance. She's a young woman, and all washed up; so sad. She really should try being mom and realize that she has already basked in the spotlight; it's her kids' turn now.

Vulgar is one thing, but she was mean spirited and hateful. I could be mistaken but I think the audience thought so too, as they sure weren't laughing at Ms. Silverman. Granted, Britney has put herself in a bad situation, but if people would leave her alone and/or ignore the behaviour--then she might have a chance to be "normal" again. I honestly think Britney has a mental illness that is either not diagnosed yet, or she isn't on meds for it. We watched Britney and it was so bad that I cringed. I felt bad for her, and MTV knew exactly how bad it was going to be and did nothing to stop the humiliation. I think they put Brit-brit on for the ratings/pubilicity.

To me (and to almost every member of that audience last night) Sara Silverman is not funny - she's just shockingly cruel. Everything she said last night (and last time she was on stage for the movie awards) was received so poorly by her live audience - you'd think it would actually have dawned on her during the show as she listened to the collective gasps. Comedy is supposed to make people laugh and feel good - not gasp and feel sick. She got to where she is because she's willing to be mean, and she's confused shocking with funny. Sadly, she'll probably be invited back, too. |

It was wrong for Sarah Silverman to call Britney's kids mistakes, and it was RUDE and NASTY when she made the comment something like the kids being as cute as Britney's hairless vagina??? Why was any of that even necessary? I can't even imagine any decent person thinking any of that was funny. I felt sorry for Britney and her kids. I know Britney set herself for alot of humility but man look how young she is? How long did it take everyone else to grow up? Some people take longer then others.

I can't seem to find the full video of Britney. I would like to watch it. It is a comedians job to cut those around them down but they take it personal when it happens to them. Someday Silverman will be a wash up because she stepped on too many toes. I hope she's saving her money but eventually she'll be out of a job. Like everyone in hollywood. You are in the spotlight for only so long and then no one knows you anymore. You get depressed, hit the bottle and drugs and then are eventually found under an overpass not knowing your name. It has to be depressing and humiliating to be someone where everyone screams your name and everyone wants to be your friend and then to be in the tabloids in a negative way. I truly thing the movie stars you never hear of and you think they dropped off the face of the earth are smart. They have watched the fish bowl and don't want to get caught in those waters so they are willing to take a little less money than to eventually drown in the hollywood lifestyle. I am more amazed at Chris Rock and TommyLee fighting. Two grown men with all the money they want. They both have had the beautiful girl at one time or another and they still must act like children at a playground fighting for the rights to the sandbox!!! Crazy! I will take my coupon cutting - on a budget- yardsale- thriftstore- stay at home mom life anytime!!!! You can't beat it! |

| Why is that so strange? I like Richard Prior. I like Rodney Dangerfield. I like Eddie Murphy. I like Chris Rock. I liked Andy Kauffman. All considered "vulgar" by one person or another. I like it when people push the envelope and say things that may seem out of line.... In fact, that is what MTV brought her on to do....and she did the exact same thing to Paris Hilton during the MTV Movie Awards. Don't think for a second they didn't know exactly what she was going to say before she went on stage and that it wasn't cleared by the censors. Brittney and her people were well aware who the following act was and how it was all going to play out....it just plays into her media hype. It wasn't mean...it was contrived. And as far as calling her kids "mistakes" -- I'm sure her two toddlers weren't up watching Sarah Silverman, so as I said before, it wasn't a comment directed at her kids, it was directed at their mother. I'm sure the kids won't take it personally, considering one of them isn't even talking yet. And for the record....I am a decent person....and I thought parts were funny. |

this was the 1st time I have EVER watched MTV, If this is what its all about I'm glad I've never watched it before now. I watch the 2 clips and all I can say is ??? I don't have any words to even begin to express what I'm thinking about them. Briney looked as if she was drugged out, she could barely move to the beat of her own song and you can plainly see she was lip sinking the song. Silverman (? was that her name ?). Was not even close to be funny at all. And if you look at when she was walking off stage she ALSO knew she had bombed !... they are the most adorable mistakes, THAT IS HORRIBLE TO SAY, I don't care "How Funny"(lack of better words ) she's trying to be.

I agree Britney was pretty bad. She looked like a deer in the headlights. She was obviously not singing that song; she wasn't even in time with the lyrics. But you have to admit, she has got to be the worlds best chameleon (sp?). Sometimes in the news she looks like major horrible--literally like crap, then next time we see her she's all fixed and pretty again and she looks like she's lost 100 pounds. I can't figure that out, ha ha. Now, all that being said, I was mortified that they kept showing the audience members (they weren't showing the fans either--other artists) and tons of them were laughing and making fun of her. They weren't being shy about ridiculing her either. I just couldn't believe anyone could be so rude. Then when she finished, they showed several of the rappers barely clapping for her. I mean, we've all seen a bad show now and then, but it just reflects on these other 'artists' that they made fun of her and all right there while she was performing. I thought that was in poor taste. Guess the world can't have it both ways--we can't tell her to grow up and get it together and yet tear her down when she trys. Bad judgment call by Britney's people though to put her as the opening act on a major program when she obviously isn't ready to come back to the pop world. |

| OK this is not something that really interests me and I don't follow pop singers but because of the back and forth here, I decided to go to mtv.com and see what this was about. Maybe it's just me but Britney looked stoned. Any chance she is self medicating some depression issues? And as far as Ms. Silverman, I didn't think she was all that vulgar but she certainly wasn't funny. Funny to me is being clever and that she wasn't. All in all, not a very entertaining duo.
