Kids on cruise ships

We just got back from our first cruise and I am wondering if the problems we encountered are on all cruises.
The way you got breakfast delivered to your room each am was fill out a card and hang it on the door knob. well, lots of folks in our group was getting tons of stuff delivered to their rooms each am. and some was not getting anything. after a few days, we found out that there was kids taking the forms and adding to the request and then hanging them back on the doors. one lady got a dozen boiled eggs delivered to her door one am. she had ordered 1 boiled egg.
there is also a sign to hang on the door if you want your room cleaned and the other side had do not disturb. well you can guess what was happening with these. one couple was woke up by the room stewardess at 7 am to clean their room.
These kids were anywhere from age 10 to 15 and they were with a group. They were from some canada religious school. there was 4 adults with them but there 19 kids! They were all over the ship at all hrs of the nite too. Knocking on cabin doors and running and such. seemed the adults were always sitting at one of the bars and not watching the kids. One nite, around 3 am, we were leaving one of the deck parties and the kids were all sitting around in the elevators. They said it was their club house. no adults, just all the kids.
We are planning another cruise next fall to alaska and was wondering if this is the norm for cruises. we books later in the yr thinking that the kids would be back at school but that didnt seem to work.
The kids would also lock down the elevators in their floor and leave them until someone went and unlocked them. pushed ahead of people in the buffet line and the dinning room was awful because of their yelling and screaming.
please tell me this is not the norm!

I would make a complaint with the cruise ship -- and then see if you can find oyut what school and write a letter to the school and complain about the behavior - NO adult chaperone should have been comsuming any alcohol

Ouch!! That's just awful. Nothing else to add that others haven't already said. In fact, I probably would have complained during the cruise.

We've been on 2 cruises - 1st was NCL on our honeymoon 18 years ago and the last was Royal Carribean 2 years ago and we took our kids. Food was not delivered to your room. You either had the buffet, went to the main dining room or ate wherever you wanted. Food was always available and you could take it to your room, but they didn't deliver it. No kids were running around unattended on either of our cruises. However, we were woken up in the middle of the night by drunk adults a couple times.

We're planning another Royal Carribbean for March and plan to take our kids again. I would have definately complained about 19 unattended kids running around and wreaking chaos.

Carnival cruises offer 24 hour room service. When we went on our cruise, we had a light breakfast delivered every morning. We did see children running around unattended, but none of them were mishaving. In fact, they all seemed to be just having a good time. I know that they have some great programs for children of all ages. They even had a disco night for teen, they got to take over one of the lounges for the night.
I think if I had encountered what you did, I would have been calling someone and complaning.

That sounds horrible, I would make sure the next cruise you take is more adult only and not "family" oriented.

There was complaints about them made but it didnt seem to make a difference. The adults that was with them were informed that their behavior was unacceptable but they didnt really care. they were having a blast sitting at the bars. It was a carnival cruise and they deliver food to your door any time you reguest it. but no one requested 12 boiled eggs! lol
I was told by one of the guest that complained about them that she was told by someone at the pursers desk that they had received more complaints about this group of kids than they have ever had over a group of kids. there was other kids on the cruise and their parents watched over them and they were very well behaved. It just appeared that these kids were turned loose on the ship and never monitered what they were doing and where they were. Some of them were ran out of one of the bars one nite and security came to prevent them from returning. a couple of them was protesting that they paid for the cruise just like everyone else and had the right to go where ever they wanted to on the ship.

I think you had an unusual experience. I have been on 2 cruises and did not have these kind of problems. On the 7 day cruise we had some 10-14 year olds that ran around on the last two days but they just ran making noise. They did not disturb people in any other way. As a teacher, I would agree with the other posters, call the school if possible. If the adults with them were not responisible, they would want to know. My first cruise was last Easter so there were many teachers on board. I can't wait for my next cruise.

Red face

We went on a Carnival Cruise in July and had the best time ever. We did not opt for room service. We ate at the buffet and in the dining room. The food was great. My kids 10 and 12 were off on their own a lot and never ran into any trouble. We never saw other children get out of hand either.

I talked to some of the others who wert on this trip too and they have been on other cruises and they said that they had never had a problem before with unsupervised kids either. The lady that got the dozen boiled eggs delivered to her cabin was in a cabin right down from where some of the kids were staying. seems that there wasnt a adult in the cabin with all the kids. anyways, she said the lady that cleaned their cabin said it was a total mess. They had dumped out the soap and shampoo all over the bathroom floor and had written on the shower walls with lipstick. wonder if they will be charged exta for cleaning up that mess? She said there was cereal dumped out in the floor and looked as if they had just walked on it and crushed it into the carpet. man what a mess to clean. I thought you couldnt get a cabin unless someone was over 18 in the cabin with you but I wonder if they bent the rules for this group since they were from a private church school. I am just glad I didnt have to clean it up.

I would so contact the school if you can. Can you imagine how horrified their parents would be? I went on my Senior cruise, was 17, and had no chaperone in my room. Got lucky and only roomed with one other girl but we were with a group of about 80. We would stay up late but we stayed on the decks and no one was running the halls.

I think a letter to the cruise line and school are very much in line, in fact I would CALL the school. I would speak to a live person who is the principal and if that does not work I would go to the priest of the church.

I would be SO MAD!!! You paid for that cruise, and it was spoiled because of them. If I went on a cruise it would be a well planned, saved for vacation, and to have it ruined by undisciplined pushy kids would not go over well, I would be devastated. I would find out where they were from and ask them to reimburse you for your tickets!!!! Explain that you paid to go too, and were unable to enjoy the cruise because of these kids. I would at least bug them to death until they couldn't stand it anymore. Call everyday, write, email, whatever. Order pizza's and have them delivered to the pricipal's house!! JK!!!!

can you tell I'm pmsing?!?!?

You might also consider a Letter to the Editor of the town where the school is located. State that the children on the trip were unsupervised and the chaperones were in the bars and you felt the behavior of the children was an embarassment to the school and, in the future, if they have plans to let their students loose on the rest of society, to please teach them how to behave appropriately.

I would have "baptized" a few of 'em right over the side of the ship.
