6-Year-Old Girl Found Hanged in Texas

CORSICANA, Texas - A 6-year-old girl was found hanged inside her family's garage and had been sexually assaulted before she died, police said Wednesday.

Authorities have made no arrests or named any suspects since Hannah Mack's body was discovered by her mother on Monday. They are saying little about their investigation.

"I will confirm that the hanging and sexual assault were part of this scenario," Navarro County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Mike Cox said.

Cox said several people have been interviewed and no one has been ruled out as a suspect.

"We don't want to do anything that would compromise a successful prosecution of this case," Cox said Wednesday before abruptly ending a brief news conference.

Neighbors in the rural lakeside community in east Texas are frustrated by the silence so far and worry that a predator remains on the loose.

In a letter to the sheriff's department, Navarro County Judge Vicki Gray said an autopsy of the body showed "a multitude of events that together caused the death of this child." No other details were released.

The first-grader's body was found in a garage in Navarro Mills Lake, about 65 miles south of Dallas.

"I'm just concerned about the kids out there," said Harold Hocutt, 75, a neighbor who knows the girl's family. "Little girls. Little boys. It's just something you don't forget. Every time I drive by (Hannah's house), I cry."

Police asked state caseworkers to not say whether Hannah's family had been investigated by child welfare officers, said Marissa Gonzales, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

This makes me sick. I will never understand why things like this happen at all.. let alone to an innocent little girl.

Our world is in such a sad situation. I am soooo tired of hearing of stories like this. WHAT in the world is wrong with all of these people?!!! I hope they find the person that did this and take him/her down quickly. I am getting terrified to even let my kids go to school anymore.

How sad, the first thing that came to my mind was that movie "A Time To Kill" with Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock. Did it say what race the little girl was? To be hung outside of your house, it sounds like someone was making statement, most predators hide the body. Hopefully the police will make an arrest soon, so it doesn't happen to someone else's child.

Authorities named the live-in boyfriend of the mother of a 6-year-old girl found hanged and sexually assaulted as the primary suspect on Thursday.
Kevin Wayne Anders was arrested late Wednesday on charges of unlawful possession of child pornography after an analysis of computer files revealed pornography, said Chief Deputy Mike Cox of the Navarro County Sheriff's Office. Anders is being held on a $100,000 bond.

My husband works at a jail and what really gets me is that they keep child molesters away from general population to protect them. I say let BUBBA and his friends take care of the Crazy F'ers.

it's very sad - and right after it happened, the mother was on the news crying and saying how she just couldn't imagine who would do such a thing - she let him in her house!!

I didn't go to the link to read the whole story. I just couldn't do that. She was 6 years old. Shouldn't there have been an adult with her when she was home? I just don't understand how someone can be so evil to do something like this. I don't think they should be "protected" in jail either.
