Door to Door Sales - Have You Ever Heard of This?

We had a person come to our door today with a cable company (not the one we have), and offer to beat our current rate, all I had to do was GIVE HER MY LATEST CABLE BILL! Sorry, to shout, but I was floored. She was walking around with a dozen or so of my neighbor's cable bills so she could get them set up. It just screamed of a scam to me, with all of the identity theft and everything going on. When I told her we weren't interested because we like the high-speed internet that's bundled with our cable she wanted to know "how many megs we have". Um, that has no bearing on what internet speed you want or need.

Needless to say, she did not get my cable bill, nor did she get my name that "she needed to make sure no one else bothered me on this."

Anyone ever heard of this, was I in the right, or am I just paranoid?

Renee

I've never heard of it before, but I did a Google search and got some matches, so I guess it could be for real.

I don't see why she would need your cable bill. She should know what the basic rates are and be able to state their rates.

I think you did the right thing!!! And the smart thing!!!

Kind of like the alarm installation company that came here about 2 years ago to tell me 1 of the neighbors up the street had been robbed and everyone was installing their alarm. When I asked which house was robbed, they didn't have an answer. I dislike tactics as such and they were promptly on their way. We all have to use common sense and think for ourselves.

We had a salesman say that too. We had a friend that lived on the other side of the block and it was a brand new house.... I hadn't heard anything about any burglaries! We did end up with the system. This guy also wasn't taking no for an answer. We were still moving in when he came by

I hate it when solicitors try to use peer pressure to sell you something. That instantly sets me off. "yeah, I'm selling XX and all of your neighbors are signing up...I've got Joe down the street and Fred over there". I usually just state that I am not interested and I what my neighbors are doing doesn't impact me. It usually makes them mad then, but I refuse to buy anything from a phone or door-to-door solicitor. If I want something, I will research it and call that company.
