Question Chocolate Silk Soymilk

DD is lactose intolerant. Last summer I finally gave in and bought chocolate Silk Soy. She loves it and it agrees with her. Even DS likes it.
The last two cartons, according to her, aren't right. The color is lighter and it doesn't taste right. Even DS agrees.
I emailed the company last week and received a very generic answer, you know the one. We'll forward your comments to whoever needs to hear them.
I buy another carton, same story.
This time I look over the website and read the FAQ's. One issue talks about how to tell if Silk is spoiled. Two indicators are the same as what we're experiencing. Light in color and an off taste.

Do you drink Silk soy and had any experiences such as this?
I've emailed the company again also stating that I will not be buying their product anymore. Considering the first reply, I doubt that I'll receive a reply any different.

YES!! I get mine at Giant Eagle. I also have a lactose intolerant child. I've taken mine back to the store and they have made a return without any problem

Ha! This is funny.

There have been a handful of times that <we>, as a family, bought soy milk, to give to DD#2.

If its in the fridge too long, how are we supposed to know if its spoiled (DW and I do NOT drink it...)

We give it to her, and ask her: Does this taste ok? If she says no, we toss it

We've bought silk plenty of times, but not chocolate. But AFAIK, never had a problem with it.

From what you're saying, it COULD be spoiled.

Thanks, I'll do that. I bought it at Wal-Mart so there won't be a problem returning it.
What gets me though, the carton is dated and the dates are always way out there. Not even close to supposedly being bad.
I'll let Wal-Mart deal with it. Though they'll probably just throw it out. Although, who knows, maybe they make a record and submit it to the company.

I buy Chocolate Silk soy milk at Wal-mart all the time. I haven't had that experience yet. I would return it Wamart if it happened though.

I usually have much better luck calling the company and talking with a customer service person. You will likely be asked for the idenfiying product information (date and batch number) from the side of the carton. I've always been sent free product coupons when I've gone the telephone route -- when I've emailed it has occasionally taken days if not weeks for them to get back to me.

I'll try that also. I thought it was unusual when filling out the online comment that there wasn't a space for the identifying info. UPC, store bought and product was all that was requested.

My fave is Westsoy Lowfat Plain. I also buy it at Walmart and it doesn't have the sweetness that a lot of them have. The flavor is also milder then some others.

I've never tried chocolate. Is it high in sugar?

I'd return to WM and let them know that it is *off*. Who knows what they'll do with it. I'd still try to get ahold of a real person on the phone at Silk Soy in order to find out if they changed the recipe or something?

According to the Silk soymilk site, both the regular chocolate and light chocolate half gallon sizes have 19 grams of sugar per serving.

I never thought to check the website!

13 g. per serving = West Soy.

I buy my kids Cocoa Puffs (12 g. sugar per 3/4 cup serving).

LOL... I'm not too picky about this sort of thing but durn that sugar adds up!

I could be wrong but I think the expiration date is for the unopened carton. Once you open it you are supposed to use it within a certain amount of time (maybe a week? - I think I read this on the carton one time).

I buy this all the time! It says to shake well and enjoy often. I can't believe no one mentioned this so far.

Did you try shaking it? It distributes the chocolate better. Also, I think it says to use by 7 days after opened. Mine gets "lumpy" when it's been in the frig. too long and opened.

Hope that helps.

DD shakes well and it's the last two brand new, just opened cartons that are different in color and funky aftertaste.
I believe the local Wal-Mart has W-M brand, 8th Cont and Silk.
