Question question about probate...

My Mother's neighbor passed away just a little over a year ago. He had 2 children and apparently wanted nothing that was left. They abandoned the home and has now officially gone into foreclosure. He also has a vehicle that is still in the driveway. His kids have made comments that they don't need it and live far far away..

My question is...what will happen to the car? Just go to the state? I know another neighbor of my mothers tried to contact the 2 kids about it..they really don't want it.(very wealthy) My sister really needs a car. I would be willing to purchase the vehiclefrom the kids if that's what the legal thing is to do...but, they are just letting it go? Should I contact the local DMV?? I don't want to sound morbid... not sure if I should just forget about it. Just wondering... I also have lost my father and don't want to be one of, "THOSE" neighors either.

Not sure I would want a car that hasn't been driven in a year, as you say.

You are in FL, even the tires could have problems from the heat with the weight on a portion of the rubber for a year. They cover up the RV tires when sitting for this reason.

You would be better opff just buying a car at a car lot - you would have to pay the same amount for one that has just sat and could end up costing you more in the long run!

There is probably some reason everything is just sitting - like the will was messed up - or there was no will-- I would just let it be.

Not helpful as far as your original topic, but, this just struck me as really sad. I know, things happen, and who knows exactly WHY they don't want anything, but, that's just sad.
