I was shocked at the behavior of the lunch lady

today I went to my 5 year old's lunch at school.there was pizza,so she wanted some.
I was in line with her,and we looked at the pizzas, and they were burnt.the lunch lady brought a new bacth of non burn one.my dd wanted a slice form non burn.teh lunch lady told her to take one from the other tray.i said: she won;t eat the burnt one.
the lunch lady just flung the non burnt pizza slice that landed halfway on the tray ,and halfway on the side where all the kids puts their hands....I was speechless .how can she act like that? not my dd's fault that someone burnt the pizzas....
is it too much for adults to act respectfull with children?????

I too would be appalled by her rude behavior. She really should put herself in the other person's shoes and imagine that she would probably request the same thing. If I had a pizza that was a bit well done, I would just figure that it can be left for seconds (if school allows that). On the other hand, trying to put myself in her shoes, she probably gets irritated at the numerous different requests that she hears all day. I am sure kids are constantly refusing certain foods, but want something else. So, I guess you have to consider her perspective as well, but she could have handled it better.

Happens all the time. I wish parents saw half the things I see. I work in the schools. Some of the stuff they serve shouldn't make it to the front but they serve it to the kids. The kids don't know any better and just take it. Today they had grilled chz, they were so hard the kids soaked them in the tomato soup to make them softer. By the way they are always hard as a rock, yes the pizza is burnt also.

i must add that it is a self serve cafeteria,so she shouldn;t even have to touch the food.she just was there to bring the new batches....she usually do not serve the kids, just brings the food....

Ewwww....yuck!! Self serve in elementary school ages? That doesn't sound sanitary at all. I can't imagine it even being allowed. I know public restaurants have signs on the buffets stating children under 10 need to be accompanied by an adult. Not that it happens all the time.

Burnt food in the school cafeteria isn't an every day occurance, however, it does happen. The kids have no choice in the matter.

I'm glad my DS won't eat that food. It's a pain to make his lunch every day, but at least I know what's in it and I can see what he actually ate.

totally agree about the sanitary thing!!!!!
and i usually give my kids their lunch boxes..but today was pizza, and her brother was getting lunch money.....
she had a choice for the pizza, the one on the right and the one on the left.I was not paying for her to eat lunch and actually not eat it.....reminds me of the first day of school ,when the kids had peaches that were as hard as rock.all of teh fruits went into the garbage cans untouched.....
I just wish adults would be more tactfull,it is her job to serve the food...

few years ago ,my 13 year old in was in 1st grade, and there was a picnic ,parents were invited.my dd was standing up next to me,and the PE smacked her on the head to tell her to sit down.....sinc i was there ,she was upposed to stand with me and we were supposed to go to the picnic tables.i was furious.teh teacher told me she didn't saw me.what was the difference.you just don;t smack my kids to sit down.....she is no longer a teacher there....

tomorrow ,there will be a quiche and homemade chocolate mousee in their lunch boxes.....

The middle school I work at is also run by a tyrant!!! She is mean and rude to the kids AND staff. Personally I never eat the cafeteria food; however, since I work in SDC, I often accompany a student who needs to get lunch. The way this "lady" speaks to and treats the students can be atrocious. I know that we all have bad days--but she seems to ALWAYS be having a bad day. She definitely does NOT have the temperment to work with kids (probably should not be in any customer sevice situation actually). Anyway, the first time she was rude to one of my students, I quietly called her on it. She just gave me a dirty look, but now when I am around she is not rude or disrespectful if she sees me around. I have gone to the principal about her; but unfortunately she is not employed by the school district--the cafeteria services are contracted out.

Wow...I would have come unglued if I saw a teacher smack any kid. It was a good thing you were there to see it . Imagine what she's like when parents aren't around. Hope she never works with children again.

I actually work in the cafeteria...that really was rude!

Our school serves really good food!A lot of out foods are name brands... I was surprised when I started...as for burnt food...some kids like it, but we usually don't serve to them unless they ask...we just try not to burn it! If some do get burnt..we either make more...or something else...no kid should just have to take it because thats all there is!!

If it is truly a self-serve cafeteria, what business is it of the lunch lady which pizza your DD took? Your DD should be able to take whichever one she wants. The lunch lady was acting like a child. If my kid ever had that kind of reaction, they would be punished.

My oldest is now in 11th grade youngest is in 5th and every year I hear talk of "the mean lunch lady". They have even gotten into a no my mean lunch lady is meaner arguments. Maybe it is some unwritten law every school must have one mean lunch lady, I have a girlfriend who is a lunch lady and she even joked about the mean lunch lady retiring last year and she guess wondered who would "take her place".

Some people have no business working in the customer service field. This woman especially should not be working around kids. But maybe it's cause it's easier to bully them.
She's awful pretty nervy doing that with you standing right there though.

I bet her behavior is known. I'd definitely let the principal know about the incident.

That cafeteria lady had a lot of nerve to fling the pizza while you were with your daughter. I would have asked to see the cafeteria manager. That behavior is totally inappropriate.

WHAT A JERK!!! Please report her to the school board so that she can be reprimanded and put in her place. I too have a temper and would have given her a piece of my mind.
