Newborn Found with Pacifier Taped in Mouth, Nursery Shutdown

Why on earth weren't these women arrested?

In my book, taping a baby's mouth closed is child abuse. It could easily turn into a homicide. This also brings up the question of whether that other poor child really did die of SIDS or whether they just removed the tape that suffocated him before the police arrived!

I can't believe someone would do this. It was on the news not too long ago about a young mother who did the same thing to her baby. Her baby did die from it. She said she didn't think anything bad would happen to the baby. What?? Babies spit up all the time. What do they think will happen when a baby spits up and has no way for it to get out of their mouth. It just makes me sick how horrible people will treat an innocent young baby.

that postpartum depression can really make your mind think funny things...I would NEVER follow through with any of them though. It's just that this was a daycare and these people were paid to care for these children. They were not sleep deprived (due to babies) or forced to spend the whole day with the baby while hubby went to work (ever hate your husband more than the first day he goes back to work and you are on your own with the new baby? LOL)...they chose to do this...they were not in a delusional state of helplessness or new mommies. They deserve to be locked in a room with a rubber nipple in their mouth for hours! See how they like it! Jerks!

Another reason to suck up the money and stay home with the kids until they are verbal enough to tell you what is going on. GRRR. This type of stuff makes me so angry!

Wow! The scary part is that it took two brains to come up with this brilliant plan. Are there charges for sheer stupidity and carelessness?

I work with handicapped people at a horseback riding therapy program. The saddest one for me (because they are handicapped from someone else's stupidity and not as a result of genetics) is the two boys, ages 10 and 12... the ages of my own two boys, who are suffering with the result of shaken baby syndrome. It breaks my heart. Their adoptive mother told me that their father (who did this to them) NEVER was sent to jail... merely slapped on the wrist and told to 'not be around children'. To this day, he has a life of freedom while his babies are prisoners in their lifeless bodies -- forever stuck in infanthood.

How can people who do this to infants live with themselves.

This is exactly why we sacrifice for me to stay home with my children until they are school age. I can't even begin to imagine hurting a little baby. I just don't get it or understand it at all. If you don't want to take care of children then find another job, but don't hurt peoples babies! This makes me sick.

I guess so. Our son cried endlessly for hours...for weeks...Never in a million years would the thought of forcefully plugging him up cross my mind. The only thing that had a chance of calming him was swinging him in a side-to-side manner in his baby carrier. He was born 10lbs, 5oz, in addition to the weight of the carrier, it wasn't easy. He would not take a pacifier (which we came to find out when he was 2yo that he has apraxia and likely the problem was his muscles weren't strong enough to hold the pacifier). At the time money was extremely tight but we were finally able to save up and buy a baby swing that went side to side and it was a lifesaver. Until then *we* suffered for our innocent son.

In this particular situation where they are being PAID to take care of this child and there is more than one person with which they could switch off dealing with the child, there is no excuse. Isn't this similar to gagging hostages?? And why was he in the bathroom?!

I have no data to support my opinion, but I will offer it anyways - for every daycare center or provider that is found doing something like this, there is a parent who is doing something similar in their own home. Indeed there was the mom who did something similar to her own infant awhile back and HER baby died.

The issue is protecting innocent children from adult stupidity, not stay-at-home vs. working, etc. No more, no less.
