No TV punishment, videos ok??

My 9 yr od DD is "unplugged" (no tv, computer, radio) for her sassy mouth. I was going out last night leaving them home with DH who thought he would get them some movies to watch (i.e. easy way out for him!) I said no, DD is on no TV, he said that a movie wasn't the same as watching tv.

He didn't get the videos, but is po'd that I "stuck" him with nothing to do with them. huh??

Anyway, are videos ok on no TV punishment??

IMHO, no TV means NO movies. The TV would still be utilized!

Yes, I agree. No t.v. means NOTHING on the t.v. whether it's a movie, video, game, whatever.

I agree. No TV means no TV shows, movies, videos, dvds, video games etc.

It sounds like your DH needed a 'no TV' night too... Good for you for sticking to your guns.

Your DH should have taken the time to spend some quality time with your DD. He could have played her fav games with her, played dress-up or done crafts. Too many people use TV as a babysitter. We do have TV but do not use is very much. We try to do something family each night, depending on how much time we have between scouts and football. Def on the weekend though, is when we do our family activities. I'm sure he could have thought of other stuff to do besides watching a movie. I agree, way to stick with your guns.

I agree, no TV means no TV whether it's on the network or on DVD.

Sounds like DH needs to take it up with your DD..SHE is the reason he was "stuck with nothing to do with them"!

I read this to my dh since our ds is on the same punishment except he can watch tv and he said that he agrees with your dh. LOL He said they are different.

I agree with everyone else. NO TV means NO TV..or..anything to do with the TV.

Instead of "no TV" we say "no screen time". That means no video games, no gameboy, no computer and no TV/movies...anything with a screen. It has stopped the confusion at our house

We call it "screen time" too...anything with a screen. When you have used or lose your screen time find something else to do. Music/CD is an acceptable alternative

Agreed! We have "no electronics" grounding for lying...a whole week...which they hate...so they don't lie so much.

No electronics here means no tv, dvd, vcr, computer, video games, digital cameras, stereos, ipods...anything that require electricity or batteries...yea, we're mean. It's extra stinky when everyone else just happens to be plopped in front of the TV watching a rented movie eating pizza while you have to sit at the kitchen table...alone ...eating your pizza...honesty is a huge deal in our house.

At my house, if you have to push the TV power button, it's off limits.

I did the same thing with DS and that night I had a parents meeting do DH couldn't plop them in front of the TV while I was gone. He was fine with it and actually the kids didn't even care if the tv was on or not. I didn't let them watch tv or play on the computer, they aren't really into video games, but would be if I let them I'm sure.

No tv would mean no videos in my house either.

Another pet peeve of mine is when my DH said he "had to babysit" the kids--well this was in the past since mine are now 14 and 17---but the 2 or 3 times I ever overheard him say this I immediately corrected him with this:
These are YOUR children. It is NOT babysitting---it is called P-A-R-E-N-T-I-N-G. Sheesh, he never called it babysitting when I spend hours, minutes, days, week, months, years, etc with my kids (nor did I ever once consider it other than parenting either).....

Men have a silly way of looking at things sometimes....

no . no tv means nothing on the t.v. and I agree with the poster about the father babysistting. its his kids too aint it? you dont babysit someone elses kids.
I think he was looking for a way out. the tv babysits kids all the time. he didnt want to deal with them and was just gonna pop in a dvd and be done with it.
nope. wouldnt work here ./

This is the same thing we do.....this way there is no argument!

Punishments don't work if you don't stick with 'em, and sometimes I wonder if they will ever realize that it's hard as a parent to stick to a punishment, not easy seeing your child upset, but they won't learn if you give in!

Good for you for stickin' to your guns!
