Red face How do you "party harty" as an adult?

Do you have parties as an adult and parent? I do not know how to give a good grown-up party! If Barney or Disney isn't involved I'm stumped. Please help! How do you host a great grown-up party?

We would either have a more formal dinner party or a BBQ with horseshoes, volleyball, alcohol, all of the things we don't do with the kiddies around. Ours is usually a kid party too, but I can still remember the days................

It is for an occasion or just to get together? A wine and cheese party is fun, or a dessert party. A game party is fun too, set up various board games on card tables and let people mingle and play. Battleship works well, as does Sorry and checkers. Monopoly, Trivia Pursuit not so well because they take too long. Parties with kids games are fun too. we did that raw egg toss at a bbq once and it was a hoot. It is fun to also do a party around an event like a Wimbledon Finals brunch on a Sunday Morning or a party for the season finale of a show like Survivor. You can do trivia games and stuff and have prizes. I have done pinatas at adult bday parties before. It was filled with candy and stuff like chapstick, etc.

OMG I LIVE for our parties! We host 2 "adult" parites a year...no kids! We normally invite about 50 people or so and out of that roughly 30-40 show up during the coarse of the party. It's not formal at all...it's social. People can stay 30 minutes or 5 hours...it's all good. I usually go to a local mexican restaurant (similar to a Qdoba but much cheaper and better) and pick up shredded pork, chicken, black beans and queso. I spend roughly $50 for food AND get punch cards for 2 free lunches nect time So, that's really only $40 if you count the free lunches. We set up the food buffet style so people can eat when they want. We bought some extra cheap crock pots and electric fondues to keep the food warm without drying out. We serve margs (2 flavors) that DH makes throughout the night unless my dad wants to play bartender. On the invite, you have people bring an appiitizer or a dessert and drink of their choice if it isn't margs. We play music, set up extra chairs and have fun! It has been a great way to meet our neighbors when we moved here 2 years ago and for about $125-$150 (our cost for food and drinks), it's SO worth it! I get large postcard invites printed up at vistaprint (for free!) and pay like $4 to ship them. I can't buy 100 custom invites for that. People think you spent a fortun

Have fun and good luck! If you want to do a smaller group, you can do as already said, add games. We like Scene It, Pop Culture Trivial Pursuit, Taboo

If a lot of the people invited have kids, maybe you can set up a babysitter(s) for the group and get one of the other invitees to host the babysitter. Make one house the drop off point. We did that once. Had 4 girls (all friends) and they watched about 12 kids where a TV/VCR was set up in a basement with toys, etc. We provided food and paid them each $6 an hour (parents chipped in on that) and many more people could come because of it

Wow, sexysmurf, that sounds like a LOT of fun! That's very cool of you to host something like that, I'll bet your guests look forward to your parties.

It is so much fun! I love to host parties. I even tell friends that I"ll help them host their parties and figure all the details with invites and food since I already know what works at a cheap price I think most people are just intimidated by it...it can seem overwhelming but I have it down to a process so it's not too bad

We just had a Horseshoe tournament yesterday. This is an annual event on our Island to honor my brother who died the day before the first one 4 years ago. We get trophies, ask the women to bring side dishes and we provided the meat. Everyone brings their own booze if they want that but we did have 500 jello shooters, a bottle of Crown, and a bottle of Canadian Mist. By the way, I never want to see another jello shooter in my life or until the next horseshoe tournament, whichever comes first...lol. We had about 50 people show up and it was the best day of the year for us. All I can say is grab some food, get the friends together and let the party throw itself, you'll have a good time

When my kids were little, we called it 'Cheap Date Night'........we invited about 2-3 other couples over for drinks and cards....nothing fancy, just fun! We supplied beer or one type of drink and it was BYOB after that. Everyone brought a snack to share.....again nothing fancy--we were all broke in those days.....frozen pizza/chips and dip/ice cream, etc etc.

We put the kids downstairs.....stocked them up with pizza and pop, Nintendo was big then, so we rented a few games or a movie if someone had one. Generally, they did well.....the bigger ones kept an eye on the littles and there were parent check ins often.

This was more fun than just sitting home alone, although we didnt really all get totally wasted..........those were the 'single' days! And what produced the littles!

We used to do the same. Loved playing penny poker. Sometimes we even splurged and did nickel poker. LOL

Talking

This is the best time of the year for get togethers! We are all big Alabama football fans, so every Saturday that a game is on is a good excuse to celebrate! I fix snacks and maybe side dishes, then whoever is coming you tell them to bring a snack, or something to throw on the grill, and what ever they want to drink. Usually a couple of neighbors are thrown in, it's always fun. Everyone here does it! And for me it's easier to have folks over to my house because of my baby. Have fun!!!
