| My first time saying Grace at dinner
Last night we had a family gathering for some out of town family. It was time to eat and my StepMom or Dad will always say Grace. Last night my Stepmom asked ME to say Grace. After I picked up my mouth from the counter I quickly came up with one. I'm still tingly today. Guess I'm a big girl now. |

We say grace every night, to show thankfulness and gratitude for the meal, and each other. it's the same Grace I grew up with, nothing too deep, and it works for our family. Well, one year at XMAS, we had the whole gang of in-laws here, and it was time for grace. DH decided everyone should say their own grace of what they are thankful for.....and then says "honey, we'll start it with you". I was speechless, and froze. Then I passed it back to DH and let everyone else go first, since he startled me, I was NOT prepared for that.

We pray before every meal too - but I've started wondering if our kids have "outgrown" their prayer. The kids all say the "God is Great, God is good" prayer together. I've been thinking that we should maybe change to something different, but I'm not sure what?? I'm definately not saying that there is anything wrong with that prayer, just that it feels like it is now just repeated instead of "felt" if that makes any sense. Do most people say the same prayer each meal or change it around? Just wondering! |

We never say the same prayer, because what we're thankful for is always changing, as is that which we need. We don't call it "grace"... we just say, "It's your turn to say the prayer." We all take turns, going in order around the table from night to night. We've taught the kids to always try to mention something good that happened during the day that they're thankful for, be it the rain, the fact that they have friends/a home/clothing, etc. They always mention someone who needs something - someone who is ill, a family who is struggling in some way, etc.. And they always say thanks for the food. |

I thought it was great and yes at first I was nervous. The words came flowing from my heart but I ended with what I personally ask for with each meal. Please bless the hands that prepared this food and bless those that will eat the food. So that we may do your good work.
