Smile Any ideas... stomach ache until he eats

DS, 13, for the last few weeks off and on has had a stomach ache. It seems to be getting more an more often lately. He says it feels like he need to vomit. The only thing we have found that helps is it stops somewhat when he eats. I have given him Pepto-Bismol and Prilosec. Some days it bothers him all day and some days its worse in the morning and at bedtime.

At first DH and I thought he was doing it to get out of going to school when he had a test. But now he's doing it on weekends, pretty much just various times through out the day.

He has had a really bad day today. He even skipped basketball practice today. He came straight home and went to eating then went straight to sleep. I woke him up after an hour and he was ok for another hour or so and it started hurting again.

I know with ulcers it's usually opposite. With the stomach hurting after eating so this has me completely bumfuzzled. I'm going to call the doc in the morning but any ideas to help get him through the night?

TIA

My DS experienced a lot of stomach problems right before he went into full-fledged puberty. We took him in for all kinds of medical tests (nothing wrong!), he missed lots of school... after a couple of months; his voice started changing, hair grew in on his upper lip, etc.

Hopefully, it will pass quickly. That is hard.

I never thought of that. He is for sure going through puberty. He is VERY proud of his 3 hairs under his arms. LOL Thanks!

Shoot, I forgot to tell you what the doctor had my son take at night! Uh oh. Hopefully last night didn't go too bad.

Our family doctor told us to give him over-the-counter Pepcid (acid reducer). It really helped.

If the Pepcid doesn't work he may need a something stonger.I have the same problem and I take a presription. It took me a long time to figure it out . But after many trips to the Doctor they finally said Acid Reflux. Since then I take my meds and no more problems.I forgot to add.. It may be the food he's eating now, triggers caffine, cooked tomato's ,greasy foods, certian dairy. Those can all be part of the problem.I watch what I eat and it helps.

It sounds similar to what I had a few years ago. My daughter, who is 14 was also experiencing stomach pains, off and on. I took her in to the Dr. and had them run a blood test for H. pylori ( the bacteria that causes ulcers) and she was positive for it. Really blew me away, but after going through it myself I guess I shouldnt' have been surprised. Hope he feels better!

Acid reflux is exact;y what I was thinking. My ds was diagnosed at age 6 and takes Prevacid. I too, thought in the beginning he just didn't want to go to school because it was always worse in the morning (empty stomach, and from lying flat all night and the reflux backing up). I was so glad when we got a diagnosis and he started getting better.
