Does anyone have onstar?

I recently bought a Yukon that I LOVE!! Onstar is an option.. do you recommend it? I have a cell phone and my husband drives tow truck part time (always has access to one) so I don't feel like I NEED it, but after hearing the story of that lady in the ravine for 8 days I wonder what your opinions are of it?

There was an article in our local paper some time back about a vehicle equipt with On Star being stolen
Some how they were able to pin point it's general location but couldn't see it. The On Star people activated the horn and the vehicle was located inside a garage.

My ex dh had a new Cadillac that had On Star. He went out one morning, go in, and it wouldn't start.
They actually talked to him while he was sitting in the car. The voice said "we'll contact your dealership Mr. Xxxxx and arrange for your car to be taken in and a loaner car to be delivered to your home".

So I'd say it could be a good thing, but not free.

I don't have onstar. The nurse at our school has it in her car and she loves it. Her dh travels a lot so it helps her. About two weeks before that woman was found in her car, the same thing happened in my area. A college student was driving to visit his girlfriend. He went off the road and into a small creek. He could not be seen from the road. The creek was not high because of little rain. But it gave him water and he ate minnows. He was stuck in his seatbeat which he eventually got out of and then pulled himself up to the road. It was on national news.

We have the less expensive package that will just help in emergencies or unlock your car doors. I have used it about 6 times when I locked the keys in the car,and I was so thankful we had it!

How much does the minimal onstar cost? I've always been curious about the cost, but not enough to really look into it I guess since all of my cars have been too old to have this. Maybe one of these years I will have a new car.

The minimal onstar package is $18.95 a month or $199/year.
We have it on our vehicle but no longer have it turned on. I was contemplating restarting it since my dh is deploying and I will be on my own with the boys.....something to think about.

My son has it in his SUV. He uses it to get directions, etc. (He's 17). I had to pick him up recently and used his SUV to do so. This was the first time I had ever driven the thing. I was trying to get him on the phone and going down the road trying to find a freaking microphone to talk into was TOO FUNNY. I was on the ferry going across the to the mainland and had some guy just laughing his butt off at me b/c the phone rang in the truck and I couldn't figure out how to answer it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO, if ya know what you are doing, I think its great. If you don't.....wellllll I suggest learning it b/f trying it out...lol

As often as I lock my keys in my car, I wouldn't drive without it!
We have Audi Telematics, by OnStar.
It came with Hubbies Audi A8, & we wouldn't trade it for anything.
When it comes time to renew our service, you better believe we will.
