Clear liquid diet question

I have to do 2 days of clear liquids.

I have read conflicting info on the soft drinks-
Some say diet Cola is ok, and some say no cola or root beer: confused:
Anyone know if diet cola is OK??

Stanford Cancer Center - Clear Liquid Diet Guidelines

The paper the Dr gave me says soft drinks are ok.

I can only tell you what I was told when my kids were put on a "clear liquids diet" for the stomach bug..... clear sodas that have gone flat. If in doubt, I would forgo any soda until you can ask the doctor.

We handle clear liquid diets at work all the time. Generally we give apple juice, ginger ale,hot tea, clear broth and jello. Diet coke is definately not on a clear liquid diet.

Thanks!
I will skip the cola till I can reach them.

I sure don't want to have to repeat the test.

It sure is hard when you read the different guide lines.

Hmm, DH is having a colonoscopy next week and he also will have a clear liquid diet. The *only* soft drinks allowed for him are Sprite, 7-Up and ginger ale. Nothing red - no red jello, popsicles or red soda, or even Diet Coke/Pepsi. Chicken broth/beef broth are OK, and other colors of jello or popsicles are allowed. NO dairy products of any kind.

Good luck....

My understanding of the clear liquid diet - if you can see through it, it counts as a clear liquid ie: sprite ok, diet coke not ok.

It will totally depend on what you are on the clear liquid diet for. The rule of thumb is if you can see thru it, then it is clear liquid. HOWEVER, when I was on the clear liquid diet for my colonscopy, diet coke was allowed (and I sure was happy about that!!). I could have nothing red or purple. So I really think it all depends on the reason for the clear liquid diet.

I called them and they said that diet cola is ok. Since I am addicted to cola, it will help. LOL.

Yesterday I had made a home made meatless vegetable soup ,so I could have a good tasting broth.
I forgot about the tomatoes in it when I made it.
The broth is orange from the tomatoes!
So no broth for me!

It is for a colonoscopy on Wednsday.
