My household consists of myself, my 16 yr old son and my husband. Hubby works shift work so when hes home we all have dinner together. Good old family time..lol not! Son is the first one done- Says thanks mom and off he goes.Hubby finishes next, goes outside to have a smoke, comes back in goes about his business. meanwhile yours truly who is not a speed eater is left finishing my dinner all by myself. Does this happen to anyone else? When i'm done my husband will help with the clean up but sheesh...

Back when I was in maybe the 10th grade I stayed on and off with a friends family. The dad would TRY to teach my friend to speed eat. They had a private plane and he hated going places and her eating sooooo slow. I thought it was so funny at the time.

Mine all do the same thing. Just last week I made a new rule, no one leaves the table until everyone is done. They irratated me to death. I would cook and sit down to enjoy my meal and they are all woofing the food down like it's their last meal. DH would even eat one plate get up go outside and smoke come back watch tv till I was done then go back for another plate. All so he could eat while watching tv. Now everyone is eating til the are completely done and have slowed way down. No reason to rush now because they are going anywhere.

We very seldom eat together, hubby and I are both in the hospitality business, so obviously there are not set schedules for any of us!! But regardless, I think we are all pretty fast eaters except for my oldest dd, who is pokey, probably because she talks a lot! This is part of the reason I am glad I am married to a chef, I hate cooking, and hate slaving over a hot stove for an hour when it takes ten minutes to eat!!

What irritates me most is when I spend a couple of hours on a meal, and then the family wolfs it down in 10 minutes (max!) and I am still eating -- yes, alone by myself. Frustrating to say the least!!! But, I also don't want them sitting there staring at me while I take my time and enjoy the efforts I put into the meal
