Anybody have flowers this fall?

O.k............no pansies to be found in the southeast, apparently. Can I make a safe assumption that nurseries are suffering because of our hot, dry summer?

Walmart and Home Depot had nothing at all. Today I was near the mall and noticed most of the usually beautifully landscaped areas have nothing except bushes!

Does anybody work or know of someone who works in the industry?

I really want the pansies. The mums are pretty, but I want both!

I haven't seen any either now that you mention it! I was at Home Depot the other day where I bought some mums. I love mums. Being from the northeast, we always planted mums up there in the fall...never pansies. Pansies were always considered a spring flower up there. Not here in Atlanta! I guess because the climate down here in warmer in the winter and pansies will last. It took awhile for me to get used to it. I don't know where in the southeast you are, but here in the Atlanta suburbs there is a TOTAL ban on watering. There hasn't been any rain so I can't collect that to water the mums. It's a real mess...a very scary situation. Good luck finding your pansies though...Pray for rain! ~Lisa

Shhhhh.......don't tell anybody, but I'm your neighbor. Yes, I live in the Hotlanta area, too, and I'm pretty darn close to the Bear Creek Reservoir where they let 500,000 gallons a day disappear.

I know we can't water outside, but I've been saving empty milk jugs & using a 32 oz. plastic cup to scoop up the kids' bath water and keep the jugs full. It's kept my seven mums alive and kept me from being fined by the local police.

Looks like we'll be without pansies this year or get a very late start on planting.

I'm in central Mississippi and until you mentioned it - I hadn't even thought about but you're right - I haven't seen a single pansie! They are so beautiful in the winter, I'm going to have to keep a look out for them.

I am in Hotlanta too and the Home Depot I was at this weekend had pansies and many other fall flowers. I would love, love, love to buy some and plant them in my yard, but they would all die because of the outdoor watering ban. Even if I had my landscaper plant them, I could only water them for 30 days and after that no more (if we are still under the ban, which I assume we will be).

We've been watering our ourdoor plants (potted plants on porch) with water from the fish tanks when we do water changes. I have a brand new planter box in my back yard and just yesterday was talking to my landscaper to make sure I could wait until the spring to have him plant it. Otherwise it would be a complete waste of money since everything either would die without water or I would be fined for outdoor watering.
