Anybody else still running their air?

We are finally down to some 80's, instead of 90's, but it's Oct. I want some fall weather, I want to be able to open up my windows and air my house out, I love the feel of the house when there is a soft breeze blowing through it...... Seems like we always go straight from the air to the heat and heat to the air without a break in between......(we're in Texas)

Well, here in Arizona, we can get away with airing the house out till around noon - 1pm and then it starts to warm up and the air needs to be put on. We are still in the 90's and it's supposed to be around 95 today. I'm tired of this warm weather and really wishing for an all day rainfest!!! I'd love for it to be in the high 70's to mid 80's....that's perfect weather. Wishful thinking but I'm sure we'll never get it. I agree with you though, it seems like we go straight from air to heat and vice versa!

I love that time of year between Spring/Summer and Summer/Fall when you can open up the house and feel the breeze/air out the house.

It seems this year we won't have the weather for that. Monday we were in the 90's and we went straight to colder temps. We're under a frost advisory for this evening last I heard.

nope--we're having to run our heater though!
But, we live in Montana and the upper elevations have already had a good snowstorm. DH was at a conference at one of the ski resorts last week. And they had 9 inches of snow!! Can't wait until we get some!

We're in TX, too, and this is the first day I've been able to open the windows and not run the air. Just got the electricity bill for last month and I'm really ready for them to not be $400!!!

Our home was built back in the 30's and when we bought it it didn't have screens for the windows. Not that they were gone, just that they were never there to start with . So we really cannot open our windows because of creatures like bugs and bees and flies, etc coming right on in. We cannot afford to have new windows put in that have the screens. And we cannot afford to put screens in the ones we have. If anyone has a very old house they know what type of windows I am talking about. They ones that have the latch on top of the bottom window frame that rolls in to lock it? And it's made of real wood..LOL.

Anyway, my point is, I love to feel the breezes also, but I just can't ...lol!!

I just opened mine yesterday. This is my favorite time of year also. I love to feel the breeze blow through the house. I can sleep so good at night because usually it cools off so much.

The dogs love it too. I leave the deck door open and they get to go in and out as they wish. You can't get off of our deck from outside.

We finally cooled down yesterday afternoon. I turned the AC off then, opened some windows for a couple of hours until it reached around 50 degrees and very chilly! I love it though. Today, it's very nice and sunny and cool, the perfect fall day. No AC again either! YAY.

At the hardware you can get portable window screens.
You open the window, insert screen, pull apart till it fits your window width, then lower the window down on top of the screen.
It isn't really too high, so it's not like you can open the window as far as it would go, but at least it would provide some fresh air and keep the bugs out.

Yes, still running the AC non-stop, it's in the upper 80's, lower 90's and humid during the day. We can't really open the windows either because the cats fall out of the screens. We also have a house that was built in 1930 and has the old fashioned windows still on half the house, some have screens, some don't and the portable screens don't keep cats in, LOL. The part of the house that has the newer windows keeps the cats in, but wouldn't you know those aren't in the bedrooms where we sleep.

Had the air running on Tuesday. And today it is so cold I would love to turn on the heat but I keep thinking I want at least one month of cheap utilities.

I'm in Georgia and as of today, I think we can finally shut off the A/C, at least for a little while. It didn't even hit 70 today.

I don't think I've ever even checked to see if we have an OFF button! Matter of fact....do we even have a heater? Haha! It stays so hot here South of N.O. I forget that we use anything BUT A/C!

I live in Maryland.Tuesday it was in the low 90's with high humidity. Wednesday it went down to the 80's with some humidity. Then yesterday it was in the 70's and no humidity. I teach in a building with no ac. Yesterday, the students said to close the windows but I know from being the room for many years that it would be hot in the afternoon so I keep them open a bit to air out the place.

In northwestern AZ, we've had our A/C turned off for about a month. We keep the bathroom windows open at night which has been cooling the house down just enough for it to not go over 75 inside during the day. A couple of nights, we had to run the A/C for about 20 minutes to cool down the house before everyone went to bed.

You are going to think I am crazy!
We still have our air on (two windowbox units, one in the dining room and one in the bedroom). It's about 54 degrees here BUT our house is so efficient that it gets REALLY hot if we don't. We don't even take our windowbox unit out of the bedroom until November! We have the dining room unit in the wall...not our choice that's how we bought the house...anyway, I run it at 68 degrees otherwise we are all sweating. I kid you not! In the winter time, we run our heat at 68 degrees steadily and it gets a little warm but anything below 68 merits a chill in the air.
Our gas bill is on the budget and we pay about $80 a month but during July and August, we don't pay a dime because they owe us money! I can't understand why it keeps going up though. We used to pay $74 last year and it jumped to $80 in September. Bizaar. We already have a substantial credit to overlap those January-Febuary-March months that will hit us hard.
