Let's talk Washers and Dryers!

Okay, 8 years ago I purchased top of the line Maytag Neptune washer and dryer for over 2000 total.

Hated the washer! Glad it went with the house! Don't think the front loader did a good job cleaning, only good on saving water!
Now, that we will be needing a new set...what do you use and/or suggest?
Thanks

I have a Fisher and Paykel that I LOVE. Have had it for over 5 years now, no problems. I also have the dish drawers from them and have been very happy.

I just got a Fisher and Paykel washer this year. I love it..the clothes come out of the washer almost dry
Saves money by not running the dryer as long.

I have never heard of these......feel like I must be living in hole

Where can you purchase these, and how large of a capacity do they have? We are also looking for a new washer/dryer set and I want something that has a Extra Large capacity, because 8 people produce a lot of laundry and I HATE doing so much........

TIA

I have a Kenmore Elite Oasis.
The one with the glass lid, top loading..
I love how clean and fresh my laundry is, and how large the capacity is without the agitator. but if I wash SUPER LARGE loads, it goes uneven and it is hard lifting the wet clothes to redistribute them to let the load go even again

I love that this washer uses the HE detergent and I use MUCH less water and detergent!! The best option of both worlds being high effeciency AND top loading!!!

Would I buy it again? YES!! If this one ever dies, I will buy it again.

from the website-
has 4.5-cubic-feet of drum space, one of the largest top-loading washers on the market. It replaces the vertical agitator found in most conventional top-loading machines with a wash plate that moves clothing around the washtub.

We bought the GE adora set last year. With 3 boys I have a ton of laundry. It is a front loader but I wouldn't want to go back to a top loader now. Home Depot matched Sam's price on them plus 10% off. Our clothes are much cleaner and I use a lot less detergent! This set holds twice as much as my top loader, which was the biggest we could find. I had to buy larger laundry baskets to hold what comes out of the dryer!

We brought it from Lowes. It is a Fisher & Paykel 3.7 Cu. Ft. EcoSmart Clothes Washer (Color: White) ENERGY STAR® You can do a search at Lowes.com The price range is $500-$800 (higher price ones have more different functions etc). I just got the basic one.
I did not buy the dryer yet..the one I have now works fine
We have 9 in the family..I wash several loads of clothes everyday.

When my washer died earlier this year we ended up replacing it with a Staber. It doesn't hold the amount of clothes I had thought it would, when I get the clothes out of the dryer it's a loosely packed laundry basket full. But I can stuff the washer silly I really like it but I've never used a front loader (except at the laundromat). It sounds like an airplane taking off (has that whistle sound). But the for the price we paid... could have bought that KitchenAid pair I wanted (I think they discontinued making them and they're now the Maytag _____ (can't remember... Elite??). The Staber is meant for the owner to repair and they've made it easy, just pull off the front panel to access everything... and is supposed to last 20+ years. I didn't pay attention to the energy rating if you have an electric water heater but according to the yellow energy label, if you have a gas water heater it's supposed to cost about $5 per year to run this washer.

ETA: This is a top-loading front-loader if that makes sense.. you open the top load and open a basket inside. The front-loaders kind of scared me off with talks of mildew forming if you don't leave the door open after using it.

I love my Whirlpool Duet set. The clothes come out clean, and use less water. They were an improvement compared to the toploader I had before. If I had to get a new one, I might go with Bosch.

I have a Kenmore HE4T (similar to the Whirlpool Duet) and I would highly recommend it. It is a front loader, large capacity and does a great job getting out tons of stains. I have two boys -- ages 4 & 7 who love to play outside (red clay) and get dirty. This washer is amazing when it comes to getting their clothing clean without having to use extra stain treatments.

I also got the matching dryer, which is ok -- not awful, not awesome. It does the job, but I don't feel like it was anything special, except that it matched the washer and I am one of those people who has to have stuff that matches.

Before the HE4T, I had a Kenmore Calypso for 5 years. I sold it with my old house and was never so happy to be rid of it. It started out great, but eventually had a class action lawsuit going because of reliability issue.

Is that the price for both the washer and the dryer? Or just one or the other?

Also, I have a Sears Kenmore 70 Series washer and dryer set. Had them for close to 10 years, and...funny this thread came up because the washer just pooped out yesterday. Lost the bearings we think. Was washing a load just fine and all of a sudded I heard this high pitched buzzing/grinding sound. I thought it was the belt or maybe some gears? I dunno anything about their "guts". I so wished it could be fixed as we really cannot afford to buy a new one.

It is just for the washer. It is more expensive than some...but I was looking for something that had a big tub (I like to wash alot of clothes at once...hardly ever do small loads). I also knew I wanted a stainless steel tub, we have "hard" well water and the type of tub holds up better, does not discolor as quickly.

I popped by Lowe's this weekend, and they didn't have any in stock, so I think during the week I'll stop by Home Depot and see.........They offered to order on for me.....but I'm one of those people that I have to actually see something myself before I can pay that money for something.......

My dryer just went - I'm leaning towards the top load Fisher & Paykel -- anyone have any feedback on that?

We have had an LG front loading washer and drier now for a week or so. We have done a lot of loads in a short time because we went a number of weeks between our washer breaking and getting the new one delivered. So far, so good. WE got the 4.0 washer size with the sanitizing wash (super hot water) but didn't see the value for us of the steam washing function. As a bonus, the dogs like to watch through the window

I'm glad I'm reading all this-- my washing machine has been leaking, and a friend gave us his old one. It still works ok, but we know we'll have to buy a new set soon. Our dryer has been trying to die, but we keep resucsitating it! LOL ( I know I buthered the spelling of that!)

I know 3 people who have bought the Neptune front-loading and all 3 told me that they really hate them. I was really impressed by the ads and reviews when these first came out....but now would NOT buy one because the only people I actually know who have them really really hate them. Other than that, I have had my Whirlpool washer and dryer for over 10 years and love them. They are workhorses...nothing special and no bells and whistles, but get the job done and reliable.

I have the LG front loading washer and dryer with the pedestals and I LOVE THEM! The washer and dryer is large enough to wash a queen size comforter.

It replaced a GE washer and dryer that gave us nothing but problems for 5 years!

We replaced our Maytag W&D (which were the worst we ever had, only lasted 7 years, and had many probs in that time) last year with an LG front Loader and an Inglis dryer. I have been very happy with the dryer, can handle XXL loads in a short amt. of time. But as for the washer...pfffft. We bought the washer at Best Buy as a discontinued model, now we know why. There are many LG models, ours is the front loader that has little ball bearing type deals at intervals, sposed to save water. It's a total bust. Besides not being satisfied with the cleaning power, whenever we've put chlorine bleach in the bleach cup it's burned spotty bleach spots in the loads. I've even watered down the chlorine bleach in attempt to rectify the prob, but to no avail.
I would consider another model of LG front loaders, but would never again buy any Maytag appliance. (we totally fitted the house w/Maytag 8 years ago, all have been a nightmare)

I have the LG front loader. The only problem I have with it is that when I wash something really heavy, it gets stuck on 10 minutes. It *pretends* it's spinning for a very long time. I have to stop it and rearrange...or sometimes just take the darn thing out without finishing.

Another question for those of you who have front loaders....do you always leave the door and the detergent door open?
