All state insurance dropped us

it is a vent,I think it sucks.we 've had the same homeowner insurance fo rteh past 5 years.and had one claim (hurricane katrina took our roof ).but no hurricane since then, and only had 2 other one in the past 10 years.
the reason thay are dropping us off is because we live in a hurricane zone, well duh.but not that close either....but also because we do not have a auto insurance or a life insurance with them.I think it is pure blackmail, extortion, that they deny us becuase we do not have extra insurance with them.they were way too high for our vehicles...
so on monday ,i will have to call and call to see if we can get insurance for our home.we are about 50 miles from the coast...

just venting away.....

That is just ignorant! I knew they were kicking people off for different reasons, but *ARGH*! Personally (and maybe I'm not looking at it from all angles) I think thay shouldn't be able to drop people who have had insurance with them for a while. But maybe they could be more selective when people are building NEW houses or creating NEW policies. JMHO.

When we 1st moved the Texas several years ago -we had Allstate for the cars & house - neither of us had had ever had an accident, but unfortunately were in 3 within the 1st 8 months we lived there. Only 1 of the 3 was our fault. They put us in their high risk category. The prices they wanted us to pay would have bought us a new car 3 times over, thus we wouldn't even need insurance!!! At the time we only drive a $7K used Tempo! We dropped them for the cars, but had to keep them for the house. We hated them. As soon as we moved back to Kansas we got other insurance and will never ever use them again! The dumped us in our time of need, too.

Not a fan of Allstate insurance. This week my ds got a letter in the mail thanking him for requesting an auto quote. It had his name plus the make, model of car he drives. He never requested a quote from them. I called the agent and he tells me the letters went out in error. Now how are they getting the information? I don't believe for a minute the agent made an error the way the letters were stated.

Good Luck getting insurance.

Depending on the state, some sell lists and otherwise, it's considered public information. I, too have gotten quotes for auto and home. I find it invasive and offensive. My business is my business, but thanks to legislators, it's not. Look no further than the privacy policy hoopla where YOU the consumer, have to opt out. Why should we have to opt out? We should have to opt in!

Back to the op, it stinks and unfortunately is nothing new. Insurance companies have gotten away with this for years. I don't see it changing, they are major campaign contributors.

we use ANPAC and really like them. We DO have them for home and auto but only because they were cheaper than everyone else. Plus, if you are claim free for 3 years, you start getting 25% of your premiums back each year in a rebate

Not that I hold a grudge but when I was 18, I'm now almost 64, I had just gotten a car and Allstate insurance. At that time in Missouri, if you were cancelled by an insurance company you had to go into a state funded, very expensive insurance pool for high risk drivers. The company did not have to give any reason for the cancellation. I had the insurance less than a month and they cancelled me. My insurance rate tripled for the next year before I could go back to a regular insurance company. I swore then that I would never have Allstate and I have not. There are three insurance companies on my "list", but Allstate remains at the top. I would do without before giving that company a penny.

We had Met Life and when our pipes froze a year ago and then burst we filed a claim. Well, they canceled our policy after that. We were ticked!! Our policy is always paid and we'd had them for 8 years and this was the FIRST claim we'd ever filed.

I hate insurance. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

We just bought our home close to two years ago, but we have Liberty Mutual and love them. Always pleasant on the phone when I call with a question, the rates are very good, and they never try to "upsell" me. I once requested an auto quote and was told that they offer a very nice "package" deal when you have home and auto with them. Would have gotten that also if we could have afforded it at the time. Still may switch when we get the money

We got dropped by Allstate a couple of years ago, never had a claim on home or auto, they just dropped us.......was pretty ticked! Now we are with Farmer's (hard to find someone to cover DH's car, without alloted miles per year) We haven't had to file a claim with them either, so who know how it would go if we do......To me insurance can be one of the biggest scams, if you pay into you deserve to use it without getting dropped.....

Do you know, it's legal for most insurance companies to use your credit score to figure your premium? If your credit is compromised, then your rates are going to be higher. That makes absolutely no sense to me.

That certainly doesn't seem fair at all, if you have been a customer in good standing then you would think that should be all that matters........I never could figure out why our rates sometimes go up and down....we have super credit....Seems like they can pretty much make numbers fit whatever they want to.....

I will NEVER deal w/Allstate again. I had them from the time I was 17 and on my own policy until probably 7 years ago. I NEVER got a ticket or had an accident. They kept me in "assigned high risk" all those years, even after I married. In order for us to get Nationwide to take us, we had to get out of Allstate's "high risk" category and in to another company THEN we could switch to Nationwide.

We're w/State Farm now and happy, but I will NEVER, EVER (did I mention EVER) deal w/Allstate again.

Anyway, I'm sorry OP that Allstate dropped you. I hope you find a better insurance company quickly.
