Online Communities and behaviour standards

Dear Members,

First thanks for being a member here at MyCoupons, we are working hard to build a friendly community and a great site to help you make friends and save money.

Over the past few weeks, I've asked our moderators to err on the side of freedom. To let you talk about the things you want to talk about without too much interference. This community is your community and I want you to make it what you want it to be... What is uncalled for are personal attacks and subtle threats.

Over the past two days, it has come to my attention that some members are posting things that while not directly threatening, have left several other members feeling very uncomfortable.

Because of the nature of the web, each of you need to be very careful about the information you reveal about yourselves. Anything you post publicly, will end up being included within Google's index and if you reveal information via email or a PM to another member, that member may use that information in ways you did not anticipate. Be careful not to reveal anything personal about yourself to somebody you do not know.

Next, by being a member of this community, like the community you live in, includes both rights and responsibilities. You have the right to post about topics that are relevant to the board you are posting in and in the case of the cafe, you can be free to discuss any topic that is on your mind. You also have the responsibility to be a mature member of the community. This means not doing things like posting personal information about other members. If you have such information, that is a sacred trust. Using the information posted by your fellow community members in a way that hurts them or using information you gain from other members whether from email communications, PMs or off-line interactions to harm them is simply uncalled for... period.

We are a community, communities protect each other. We look out for each other, we don't seek to harm each other. We stand up for each other!

If you are here to tear down our community, then, I'm sorry you are not welcome here.

Does this also pertain to posting about others, in detail. This is a post I came across on the Feedback Forum. There is MUCH detail about this person AND her family.

Seems if it was a true "trade" the person would knowand post the usernamem not personal info for all to see . What was posted there is inexcusable

And. Very recently a "member" here was nasty to a moderator and that "moderator" in turn was nasty to yet another member. Both were perhaps the most vicious violations of the rules here and yet both are still here. So much for zero tolerance. So much for so much

I hope that this doesn't become a case of finding a mis-step here and there- either by a member or a moderator. There's a difference between one zit and full blown acne.

Addison,

You don't owe anybody here any explanation. Please don't feel the need to defend yourself. What happened speaks for itself. You were violated. It was nauseating, but a good lesson to all of us. You were reacting as a normal person would. And I'm sure you squared away with the "third person" - but WE (the rest of us) are not owed anything.

You do an AWESOME job, a usually THANKLESS job, and I don't know who could do it better.

Just because you can only see the one zit---doesn't mean there isn't full blown case of acne. It may mean the full blown acne is just in a less noticable public place. Just an observation....

Fear is having a poster that you have not so much as exchanged 3 words with having some very personal information and posting just enough to let you know they have that information. And then, having that person confirm via PM that they had investigated you and had a lot more information!

But, you didn't see me attacking that poster in public---I simply advised her that if any more of my information was made public I would file poice charges against her.
Nothing that was posted about youjwas in any way "personal" IMHO. I don't know any more of your personal information, than what you had previously shared.

Wow, I go away for a couple of days and miss all the drama.

It has always amazed me how some people are so open on these boards in giving out names, pictures, etc. of their families. Just really too much information.
