Need a few ideas for this baby shower!

I'm having a shower in a couple of weeks for a friend. It is her 3rd child, but her other two are 10 & 13. Surprise! lol

Anyway, because of her schedule, the shower is on a Sunday evening, at 6:30. My d/d & the mom-to-be's d/d (both 10) are helping plan & host. I figure the best plan will be to keep it to sweets & coffee/teas, but wonder if I should do more?? If I keep it to desserts, any ideas welcome! The girls are making some cookies (in the rubber duckie theme they chose), and we'll have a cake. Other than that, I'm open to any input!

Thanks for the help.

With all the sweets, your guests may crave salt. I would put a bowl of chips and a bowl of pretzels out too. Good luck with the shower.

Since you are having it at dinner time - you should serve a meal. Your guest will expect to be having dinner at the party. If you are planning on having a tea- have it at 2:30 -- This being a third child - I would call it a sprinkle - in stead of a shower - that way people can choose not to bring gifts and it is less formal than a shower.

You can keep it simple with things the girls can make - like finger sandwhiches - but I would definitly serve a meal if you still plan on 6:30 pm.

I may consider finger sandwiches, but since it is a small group, most of whom I know well, they will have eaten their dinners with their families prior to arriving.

Thanks for the ideas...more welcome!

How about a fresh fruit/veggie tray or fruit salad? The girls would be able to help with these. This way there are some healthy options also.

I guess I am in the minority but I think a "dessert" shower is just fine. I went to a shower (bridal) once and it was ice cream sundaes. It was fun. I think keeping it simple with a cake and some sweet cookies is fine. And maybe some punch. Nice, pretty, feminine. Since it is a small group you could put the word out that it is desserts, or put in in the invite.
"Please join us as we celebrate Susan's sweet bundle with some sweets and treats!"

Cake and some sweet surprises will be served

BTW, at my shower they had these adorable petit fours, I think from Publix. They had little pink booties on frosting on top.

I think at that hour that desserts and pastries would be fine also. That would be a great time, as I could feed my family a bit earlier as it's a Sunday anway and then you could have coffee and desserts for the guests. I think the sundaes would be a cute touch if their are other kids your DD's age going...

Can still be a bit fancy even though it's dessert. There are a ton of options.

Games: toilet paper-Mom leaves the room and everyone gathers however much toilet paper they think will go around her the closest wins

Safety pin or clothepin game--give each guest a pin as they come in they put it on when someone catches them crossing their legs they call it and get their pin person with the most wins

I have success with Dollar Tree prizes everyone loves wind chimes, special candle/holder, picture frames etc
