I was stung by a scorpion...

...about 3 hours ago and it still hurts like the dickens. I've been stung several times before and the pain usually went away in a couple hours. But it hurts as much now as it did when I was stung.

Anyone have any home remedies to get rid of the pain?

TIA

Ice helps a little bit with the pain... Benadryl might also help a little bit with some of the prevention of swelling and itchy throat -- it would also help you sleep tonight!

I've been stung several times... Each time it hurt more BUT did seem to pass more quickly as far as the numbness that you get afterward. Eventually, I felt like I was immune to them with how fast the pain/numbness went away.

Be sure that if you start to have trouble breathing, get right to the hospital as it could be an anaphylactic (spelling???) allergic reaction.

Also, if you are alone, let someone know what happened so that they can keep an eye on you.

I'm so sorry for you. Ouch.

Oh my goodness how awful!

Where were you stung?
Do you need to see a doctor?

I was out in the yard, I say yard, but it's more like an over- grown desert. We have huge natural rocks and I was cleaning out some thorny ivy and got stung there, on the back of my calf.

I have no allergic problems, thank you so much for being concerned, that's very sweet.

The thing is, it hurts to just touch it. I had about a 4 inch warm redness around where I was stung, but that has gone away. The pain is about 6" all around where the sting is. Right now you can not even see where I was stung.

I wish I could put some ice on it or something, but it hurts. Man, I sound like such a baby. Thanks for letting me whine.

Antihistamine allergy drugs should help. If it stays hot to the touch, I'd see a doctor, since heat and pain tend to indicate infection.

I still have a big scab on my leg from a black widow bite, so I have sympathy.

Holy Cow! I'm so glad I don't live where those critters do. I wouldn't want to share my yard with those nasty things.

I hope you get some relief soon!

Wow, I'm so sorry! I can't even imagine since spiders send me over the edge. If I saw a scorpion I would really lose it.

Be careful, you could develop an allergy at any time. Keep an eye on it, ok? I hope you recover fast!

I remember when we were little and got stung by a jellyfish, grandma would put meat tenderizer on it? Don't know if that would help or not.

Hope you are feeling better, glad we don't have THOSE is NJ!

OUCH! Been stung by those little critters lots.......and they can hurt, I would definately say if it stays hot to the touch that you might want to go see a dr. in the a.m. especially if this isn't your normal reaction......Wish I could give you some ideas other then the benadryl......Hope it feels better soon.

You do not sound like a baby!
And even if you did, so what. You were stung by a scorpion. You certainly deserve a whine pass.

I so hope you feel better soon.

Well, I've taken my benadryl, I'm sleepy so I'm off to bed. Leg still hurts. I'll let y'all know in the morning how it is. I'm sure it will be much better.
Thank you all for your kind words!

Those things scare the *you know what* out of me. I'm sorry you got bitten. I'd try some topical triple antibiotic cream that has a pain reliever in it.

was it a big one? have you been stung before? I have seen scorpions, but never been stung by one. I saw 2 on the wall behind my love seat, and freaked out that there were more. I never found more. That freaked me out to just see them in the house.

I've always heard that meat tenderizer is the thing to put on a scorpian sting. Something about the enzymes in it that draws the poison. Never had call to try it but I have heard that from a couple of oldtimers.

Morning, All - I was going to post this earlier, but I had stuff to do on my assigned boards before I could "take-off" and do personal stuff, like post here.

Thanks for asking, mabear, I am surprised to tell you that my calf STILL hurts, but not as bad as last night. I just can't figure it out. Other scorpion stings never lasted this long, and I've had a few. He was a little guy too, I thought the bigger ones have more venom.

That little fart must have been saving up.

I haven't seen scorpians live unless it was at the pet store, and spiders / ants / any kind of bugs send me over the edge ...especially in the house! (someone posted they found 2 of them in the house). LOL

our daughters brought home a "lost kitten" about a month or so ago... it was ok until I saw 2 fleas...that freaked me out and I bombed the house, vacuumed the house over and over, washed and / steam cleaned everything for about 2 weeks just to make sure they didn't multiply--can't stand any of 'em.

DNJ, have you made a doctor appt? Better safe than sorry.

Are all scorpians the same, that they have the same kind of venom? I don't know, that is why I asked.

I have heard that the smaller ones generally have a more potent venom... just as with smaller rattlesnakes.

I personally wouldn't go to the doctor unless you have an allergic reaction. But that's me... I just don't do doctors.

I have heard that the smaller scorpions have stronger poison.

Not only do the smaller ones have more potent venom but they also do not have the control an adult scorpion has on their venom. Adults will only use the amount necessary because they want to reserve the venom for prey!!! I found one of those little suckers in my kitchen once. Fortunately I was looking down and saw it before I stepped there. I was totally freaked out by it. I had DS16 vacuum the whole downstairs (my carpet is beige) before I would even walk on the carpet. I had the willies the rest of the day. Another time I was in the kitchen making lunches and I turned around only to witness a scorpion come in from the garage, right under the door into the kitchen. I couldn't believe it. I took a fly swatter and beat the tar out of that thing! I am scared to death of those things. Needless to say I had my DH raise the threshold to the door so its nice and tight!!! We've gone out plenty of times during the summer with blackllights to find them around the outside of the house and we never find any.....but we will get the occasional scraggler that makes it's way over to our house. I hope you get to feeling better soon!!

Ahhhh, that makes sense! You'd think with it being smaller, it'd do less damage. Thanks for letting us know more about that.

OP Glad the pain is not as bad as yesterday. Hopefully it will get better throughout the day.

The little ones are worse than the big ones, as far as I know. My bite wasn't awful, just painful, and it took a couple of weeks to stop being swollen and tender. If you were going to have a bad reaction you probably would have by now, but do see a doctor if it looks like there's an infection, or your skin changes color. I was lectured to goto the emergency room if mine turned black because then it's NECROTIC! The doctor seemed pretty excited by that, oddly enough.
