Cell Phone SPAM started?

The National Do-Not-Call registry states the FTC has no intention on releasing cell phone numbers to telemarketing agencies, contrary to emails circulating.

However...my 17yr old DS received 2 Spam texts yesterday. He never had one before. (Fortunately our plan has free texting or we would have to pay to receive their junk)

Makes one wonder...
I added his number to the DNC registry last night.

Anyone else have this start?

Hubby said that he got one yesterday on his phone. I hate it too because we do not have the text message plan and will have to pay each time this happens.

Thanks for the link! I got a new cell phone number a few weeks ago and had forgotten about doing this...

Sorry, no answer to the original question... Just good protection now put into place thanks to your post! Hopefully adding the numbers to the DNC list will also keep text messages from coming through.

Fingers crossed for all of us!!!

I have started to get the text messages, and I certainly don't appreciate them at all....

I got one the other night. It was from some "pharmacy" company.

I've gotten about 10 so far. I just don't understand how they have such a deep understanding of my personal romantic situation.

First we get the viagra spam in our email now on our phones, it is simply out of control. I'm not a text junky so my plan isn't unlimited and if I get many more, I'm just going to drop SMS messaging from my phone plan and be done with it.

No you don't. Call up your provider and have text messaging blocked. That's what I did.

They can't do jack about these. I was told by ATT that the only way to block them is to block text messaging all together. Not what I wanna do ...but thanks for playin!
