Hi Mel.

For the past year .. well up until about a month ago we gutted the upstairs of the house, removed all the walls, reframed the dormers to be open, put in three sky lights. We made the whole upstairs into a loft like - suite bedroom, playroom, art room, TV room and bathroom for the girls to share. It was a large project, a little over 1200 square feet total. This last past month we started on the out side of the house, it's almost painted a new color, all eight porch columns replaced, new red cedar shakes on the domer and this weekend we are putting a new roof on. After that's done we are going to remove a wall downstairs and extend the kitchen, we also need to redo the master bathroom. I haven't been crafting too much, we've been pretty busy between this stuff and the girls.

Here's some pics of the upstairs ... they're not complete but I haven't had time to upload and organize all of them yet. ( Not shown is their TV viewing area or computer area .. the TV in the pics is for video games only )

Wow!

What a huge project. It looks just great. My wife is the handy one in our family, I have infinite patience when it comes to figuring out computer problems but put a hammer or a saw or any other tool near me and I about loose my mind.

FYI, We are starting to create some little sub-sites, one of which is:

Home Improvement

We'll be adding some articles and we have quite a number of advertisers with some great coupons for things like lighting fixtures, faucets, etc.

It would be great to be able to add a story about this huge project.

Wow, what an awesome space for your kids. It makes me want to go push a hole in my sons room walls, we have been thinking of tearing down the wall between his bedroom, playroom and compter nook. Once I start DH will just have to finish it right??

It's beautiful Sammy! Glad to see you back on the boards. Well, eerrr, except for the part where you make the rest of us look like sloths when it comes to your projects!! lol...Just kidding. I know you have given me a lot of decorating inspiration in the past. BTW, I don't believe we ever got to see the finished kitchen pics-would love to see those when you get the chance. At any rate-welcome back! Lynne

Greg,
Sammy is very handy! Her DH is very good too.
But she will tackle any project and turn it into something just great! She can dig something out of someone's trash and make a masterpeice out of it!

I can't help it the physical world just confounds me. I wish I could do this stuff, I'm just totally incompetent. You got to hand it to folks like Sammy. This project is amazing.

That is inspiring! There must be a contest you can enter that into.

Did you at least send a picture of your finished room to the paint company you used?

That is fabulous! I miss all the inspiration, to be honest! I still remember hearing about how Sammy traded her couponing skills (getting free or nearly free hotdogs, drinks, etc.) for her girls school tuition. How cool is that! I was just thinking about earlier this week and wishing she was still on the boards....

But, seeing that project, I certainly understand where you've been. You've been missed, Sammy!

Thanks so much guys for the nice comments and warm welcomes! The girls are loving their new room, it's become quite the kids hang out around here, so they really needed the space. The hardest part of the room as you could see from the pictures was the sheetrocking, it's 16 foot up in the center and all angles .. that part really, really, really, really sucked! *LOL*

Mel, we drew 'inspiration' from the girls favorite colors, we then found the polka dot duvet covers for their beds at the Company Store on clearance. From there the colors of the room were pulled from that piece. I painted all of the furniture different colors to tie them in. The little vanity and mirror were garage sale finds, their art table was a curb find ( free ) , the chairs are old school chairs that we found at an Army/Navy salvage place and paid $2 a piece for ... the girls actually scored those, they are good bargain hunters. The tubs to keep their toys in we found at an end of summer sale, they work great. The vanity for the bathroom was an old dresser that I found on Craigslist, we then painted it, changed out the hardware to glass knobs and retro fitted it for the sink. The lighting in the bathroom are vintage depression glass sconce that I bought off of E-bay very inexpensively. I broke them down, cleaned them up with metal cleaner and then rewired them. I found the shades on-sale and glued the buttons on to bring in the polka dots and colors. The shower curtain is two plush bath sheets I found on sale, I put in the grommets and decorated with the ribbons .. we couldn't find a shower curtain we liked.

Linnybop .... The kitchen is not done! We decided the kitchen was too small for our size family, plus all of the kids friends that are over here. So we decided to get the girls upstairs and then break into one of the old rooms downstairs to double the kitchen size. We are living with a makeshift kitchen .. hopefully this winter we'll get to that project. Dave's been extremely busy with work as always, so nothing goes to fast around here. Much to my angst .. I've learned a lot of patience over the years. *LOL*

Kmlee .. Mr. Ryder dog is doing well and so is his adopted brother Kirby .. they are lazy, sassy little fellows and do their best to keep us in line. How is your basset boy doing? We unfortunately lost our old dog Lily last year, it was very heart breaking, I loved that old grouchy dog! We do have two new additions to the family though .. I'm such a sucker, with a capital S! The Bassets have two younger, but not smaller siblings, we have two Aussies ( brother and sister ) in addition to two Bassets now .. quite the odd herd! Yes, four dog, three kids, one bunny and a partridge and a pear tree. Like I didn't have enough to do already. *LOL*

Anyhooo .. Thanks for all of the Hi's .. it's nice to see all of the 'oldies' I know and meet some new people too. Greg, I will check out the Home Improvement board, thanks!

Awesome! I love the bright and cheerful colors. Very pretty and inspiring. We are looking at having someone build a house for us sometime soon and so it is fun to look at what other people have done. I really like the way you fix up the old furniture with paint and new hardware. Fun!

It's nice to meet you! I've been here for a few years but never formally introduced myself... Keep up the good job!

Boy, you've really out done yourself with this project. I remember when you re-decorated the girl's room before, with the picket fence and flowers on the walls.
Quite a change from making flower pots from kids bib overhauls.
I envy your ambition and talent.

Glad to see ya back.
