I am 35 and going for my first one on Tuesday. My ob/gyn and I discussed it at my last visit and he said they are now recommending that women get their baseline at 35, rather than 40. He referred me to a radiology center, as well.

I just wanted to add, that along with the mammgram, if you have incidences of breast cancer in your family, you can also get the breast sonogram if available in your area or radiology lab. I only mention this, because I didn't realize this was available until just recently when I had gone in for an ovarian sonogram, which I go every 2 years because of ovarian cancer on both sides of my family. The technician performing the sonogram, told me the breast sonogram was available also to those with breast cancer incidences in the family. This is a great tool, along with having the yearly mammogram. Unfortunately the insurance companies as far as I know, will not pay for the breast sonogram unless the doctor clearly states it's because you are at a high risk due to other family members having it.... mother, aunt, sister etc. Annie~
