What kind of doggie do you have?

Reading Heather's post about Ryder and his sidekicks made me wonder what kind of dogs does everyone have?

I have posted before that we have a Brussels Griffon. She is the sweetest thing. I don't think she really knows that she is a dog or that Tyler is not a puppy. She treats him like he is part of the litter. She thinks my husband rules this house the way she bows down to him, where the heck did she get that idea?? She knows I am mommy around here and every time I come home from the store she comes running because she thinks I have something for her Lindsey says she is Brownie's mommy but I refuse to be considered a grandma right now.

We have a beagle mix and a border collie mix.

The beagle mix - she looks like a pure beagle except for her snout. It's just a small bit more elongated than squarish, like a pure beagle. When she perks her ears up though, she's almost a dead ringer for a pure beagle. Her coloring, personality, "woo-woo-woo" bark - ALL beagle!

The border collie mix is truly a MIX - The only thing we can possibly tell she might have in her is either boxer or bulldog - her bottom jaw juts out like those dogs have.

My husband has actually ordered a DNA testing kit for dogs! We're really curious about these dogs. Our vets can't come close to telling what's in these dogs - the beagle is too much "beagle" and the border collie is too much "mix". So hopefully we'll be able to find out a little something!

Which one- we have 3. Sammy is 10 and is shepard chow mix- he's a very laid back dog -even as a puppy.
Hutch is 4 -he's a lab, chow and not sure what else -he's alot bigger than your usual lab or chow- he can put his head right on our kitchen table- scary looking because of his size but really a big baby! And then there's Buster who we got this March-he's 10 months old- he's a airdale terrier/ blue heeler mix. Very much still a puppy for energy- he drives Sammy nuts!

We've got a Chocolate lab named Brittany. She's in her mid-teens and isn't in the best of health.

Speckles, or Speck is a springer-spaniel mix-he's about 7

Buster is a 2 yr old Pomeranian and is hell on wheels. He's sweet as can be, and loving and loyal and all that, just not the brightest pooch. He's STILL not potty trained, and believe me, I've tried just about everything to get him trained.

We've also got 2 cats and a bunny.

Mack- 15 year old Greyhound. I rescued him off the track when he was 4. I love this dog. He is the greatest ever. He is my second Greyhound and if I ever get another dog I will rescue another Grey.

Grumpy- 13 year old American Staffordshire Terrior aka Pitbull. He was my hubbys dog when I met him. He is the sweetest dog. Has never growled ever and has the most laid back personality. I truely believe these dogs are mean because people treat them bad.

I call them the odd couple. Mack is the dominate one and Grumpy loves Mack soooooo much. He tries to lead Mack around by his collar and if we take them to the vet together Grumpy cries when they are giving Mack his shots.

Mack can lay his head on our table and if he stands on both hind legs he is taller than DH who is 6'1.

Dixie is a 10 yr old Sheltie. She's becoming an old lady with bad hips from running ballistic when there's a loud noise such as line trimmers and lawn mowers.

Blazer is a 4½ mo Choc. Lab. He's a smart little fella with great potential. We didn't go looking for him, he was at the jr. high running around on the parking lot with no tags. I was afraid he was going to be hit and he was too young to find his way home. I ran an ad and called the local vet, however, no one claimed him so we kept him.

This post is so timely, I was searching for similar posts.....

We are getting our first dog tomorrow!! Long story..... but she is an Irish Terrier puppy, 9 mos. old, very active and still needs a bit of housebreaking. We are very excited, esp. the kids since we are all dog lovers but couldn't take the plunge until now.

If anyone has an Irish Terrier, please email me (maggarwa69@hotmail.com) so I can bombard you with any questions I may have later!

When people ask me what they are, I tell them they are black. They are same-litter sisters; one is a terrier (digger) and the other one lookes like a miniature dobie (she a sight-hound). They are 30 lbs aech, should be 25 .

we HAD 3 daushounds. one was long haired. That was Bogie. I got him when he was 2 weeks old. His mom got out and got run over and I was suppose to keep him and feed him with a bottle till he was eating on his own. The man who owend them had 8 of them and I was just suppose to help him out. But I never gave him back. I had him 20 yrs 4 months and 3 weeks. We later got Gretchen. The was a short haired doxie. Her and bogie fell in love and they got married and later had 8 puppies. we kept one of them. Our daughter was little then and she was into thundercats ( a kids cartoon) so she named him Lineo after one of the thundercats. They led a very happy, sheltered life. They were all inside dogs. Bogie developed a baind tumor and he died aug. 2000. Gretchen later got stomach cancer and she died nov. 2002. Lineo was the last to go with bladder cancer may 2005. We now baby sit for a friend who has a ****suz and he is about a yr old.

We have 3.

Poodle Doodle - A poodle she is 13 years old. She completely rules the big dogs. If she thinks they are getting to rough playing with each other she will jump up and run over and growl at them til they stop. It is hilarious.

Bella - A great dane she is 2 1/2 years old and 148lbs. She's a big girl.

Maxwell - A great dane & pit bull mix he is 10 years old. The biggest baby of them all.

Poodle Doodle and Max we rescued from the pound. You can really tell they are happy to have a home. They are the best dogs I have ever had my entire life. It's as if they are greatful we rescued them. I'll have to change my avatar to them. I have to rotate them I don't think I have one of them all 3 together.

LOL!! Don't you just love watching things like that with your pups?

There's so many things our 2 do over here, I could write a book.

We do too !! He looks like a boxer, but he is mixed with who knows what. We found him as a puppy lost from his mother and we've kept him ever since. He wandered into our garage one night after we had cooked out and had not shut the garage up yet. He didn't even have his baby teeth in yet. He is the sweetest dog with us and very protective of us also.

We have a little chi-hua-hua named Rio... He's a darling little dog that we rescued from the shelter last February. He is very attached to our family and is a classic 'ankle biter' with strangers. Sigh... We're working on his people skills but it's going to take some time -- who knows what he went through before we got him.

We have 3 mutts.
Bear is 4yrs old . He looks like a husky but has golden retriever fur. He is gorgeous and knows it. He is the biggest baby I have ever seen.
Trooper is 3yrds old and was rescued by the police. The owner was caught literally red-handed (blood on his hands) beating him. His a chow mix. because of the severe head trauma, he is neurotic.
Hayden is a year but acts like he is 3 months old. Hubby found him at one of the schools last Oct. he was only about 3weeks old. He looks like a baby deer or a colt. He is part shepherd, Carolina dog. He is the shyest dog I've ever seen.
I'm doing DNA testing on them for hubby for Christmas. He'd really like to know what they are.
We also have a cat and 3 guinea pigs.
Hubby is a Police officer and has brought home many more than these 3 dogs for us to find homes for. He brings home more than dogs & cats. I never know what he will show up with.

WE adopted 2 Sheltie puppies about 2 months ago. They're brother/sister. Titan is white and brown, Oreo is black and white, of course! They're about 5 months old and into EVERYTHING! They play outside as often as possible but sleep inside or stay in when we're gone.
We also have a guinea pig named Peanut. She's the real sweety! I adore her. I was so against getting a guinea pig(too rat like for me, I thought) but let my oldest get it for her birthday. Oh, she entertains us so much and is so very sweet.

I have a Beagle/mix. Jake was a year and a half old when I got him. He's now 4 years old and very independant, yet spoiled. I got him from a local rescuer.
I think he's mixed with Shepard, judging from his coloring. He's larger than a Beagle and smaller than a Shepard.
He lets us know is there is someone around the property and always tells me when it's time for my granddaughter's bus to arrive.

We have Ryder who is a 4 year old Basset hound. We rescued him when he was just a puppy from some people that I guess wanted a stuffed animal, rather than a real live dog they had to care for.

About a year later we rescued Kirby from the pound, he's also a Basset Hound. The vet says he's probably around the same age as Ryder. So he was around a little over a year old when we got him. Someone had really abused the poor guy and he was bone thin. He took right to me, but it was about a year before he'd trust my DH and still has trust issues with men in general.

Here's my boys, yes .. they have a terrible tough life. ( BTW that's paint on Ryder's ear .. he has to help me paint, it's a must )

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2276/...79706322_o.jpg

Here's our Australian Shepherds, they are working Aussies and coming from working dog stock .. so they have a lighter coat than show Aussies. They come from a working farm, One of our employees knew the people so they were willing to adopt out to us. Taz is the yellow mismarked self merel and the male, sweet as he can be and a very big baby. His sister Talula or Lu as everyone calls her is a red tri and the brains of the outfit. She's quite the problem solver and it makes it about impossible to keep them out of mischief .. we should have named them frick and frack. Lu is also a very sweet, Aussies are great family dogs.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2317/...2b2b3b9e_o.jpg

Better shot of Taz's eyes .. the only way you can tell he's a merel. Yellow is not a recognized color in the Aussie world and they aren't seen that often because of it, so it makes him a little unique.

We have a beagle, Ralf, that was a pound rescue. DH brought him home one day with no warning or anything. Of course I was smitten with him right away.

Whoever left him at the pound had him neutered. He's full-blooded beagle, the only thing we could figure is that he shied while hunting and his owner didn't have any use for him.

Our vet said he was around 4 years old when we got him and that's been nearly 11 or 12 years ago! He's an old guy now, mostly deaf and his coat is a lot grayer/whiter.

He's been THE best companion we could've asked for, doesn't bark much (well, except when we get home and he wants his biscuit) and has NEVER nipped or jumped on either of our boys or any guests we've ever had. The worst thing about him is his breath (his teeth are in terrible condition due to his age) and the fact that he ALWAYS wants to be loved on.

Ralf

We have beautiful black mutt named Hanna. Lab, retriever and who knows what else!! We got her in 1991 or 2 I honestly can't remember!! My kids were just little and now one is married and the other at college!! She has been the best dog ever. We got her from the shelter and I'd never been to one and the noise was terrible!! She was the only one waiting patiently and I said, "I'll take that one!" I was just now out playing with her, it doesn't take long anymore because she gets worn out quickly. She is very healthy but getting quite a bit of grey.

We have a pure bred beagle that my son fell in love with at the pound. We had to wait 6 weeks to get her as she had just had a litter of puppies. We didn't (I didn') want a puppy so we took the mom. She is the best dog. She thinks she is the ruler of the house and we let her. She is a great dog. Very loving and the whole family spoils her so much. She is now 4 and wonderful.

The only thing I would change is her bark. She barks anytime anyone walks in front of our house and it is a busy sidewalk and she barks a LOT! I keep threatening to take her to the vet and have her barker taken out!!

Well I just married into a family that has a dog, a mutt, named Buford..... I like dogs , but I have this thing about touching them....Oh dont even let them lick me. I know its crazy, but true.lol........ this dog loves me to death, and follows me around, sitsand sleeps by my feet....... I think he is really just trying to annoy me. I treat him like one of the family. But just cant bring myself to pet him. I'm like that with all dogs. Ya think he knows, I dont like to pet him?
My hubby thinks Im crazy, Maybe I am?? but I do pet the cats. I think its the hair thing. I just dont like the feel of the coarse hair, let alone they lick every part of thier body.

P.S. I have had dogs my whole life. Im weird!

Pooches

I have three dogs:

One is a rat terrier mix (8yrs) - we think he's mixed with Beagle. The only dog I've ever seen that actually smiles at people. People think he's getting aggressive, but it's just a smile. LOL - he shows all his front teeth!

The other two are Min-Pins (black and tan) docked ears and tails. The girl (7 yrs) is the meaning of the word "bitch" because she's mean to the other dogs. When she eats, the other two stay a foot behind her and wait for her to finish. She hogs the bed and growls at them if they get near. She tosses her blanket around until she gets herself all bundled up. She's VERY nice to us people, though - very much a pampered pooch.

My male Min Pin (10 yrs) is my heart. I just love him. We don't know how long he had diabetes before his diagnosis, but when he was finally diagnosed, he was close to a coma. So now he's insulin dependant and I inject him twice a day and we monitor his carb intake. He's lost 8 lbs, which is a lot for this little dog. At his heaviest, he was 25 lbs. Anyway, you can tell I love him because I've spent over $10K in medical bills on him. He went blind due to cataracts very soon after his diagnosis, so he had cataract surgery with lenses implanted. Now he's very healthy and active for his age.

We looked at petfinder.com and found a sweet girl so we went to meet her, it ended up the lady that was giving her up for adoption loved her a lot more than she knew so I looked at the others she had, I sat on the couch and Peaches jumped up beside me and would get frustrated if any the other dogs got near me. we dont know really how old she is, she was marked on her papers as a beagle but i dont think that's what she is. , when the animal shelter had found her she was almost dead from a dog attack so she's got scares all up and down a back leg. She starts looking at me about 10pm to tell me it's bedtime, she huffs at me if she doesnt get her way. if I move away when she's laying beside me she'll throw her body against me and huff. She hardly ever barks if she needs in, she starts at a low woof and slowly gets a little louder til she gets let in. She'd never been to a groomers before she has short hair but we take her for baathes, she LOVES to go get a bath and get her nails done they always give her a good "grade" on her paperwork when i get her back

We have a beautiful Great Dane puppy, Abigail. She is black w/ white paws and a bit of white markings on her chest. She is 13mos. old and weighs a little over 100lbs. We got her from one of DH's co-workers. She had a litter and heard that we were looking for a dog when Patrick was sick (he wanted a bed buddy). Some of the other dogs in the litter went as high as $2k, but she gave us Abby for her cost (shots, vet visit, etc). What a gift! She is so full of personality, and definitely Daddy's Little Girl.

My BF has two both are rescues. a female mix, rottie/ pit bull she is as sweet as can be. Someone left her tied to a fire hydrant in the middle of a snow storm. He passed her on his way to work and since she was outside of a store, he figured the owner was in the store, but when he saw she was there when he was on his way home that night he untied her and took her home and has had her ever since. He also has a bull terrier (the Target dog) and I can not stand that dog, I know that sounds mean and harsh, but the dog has mental issues. The dog does not listen and has destroyed alot of his stuff., pees on the floor for attention and has biten two people and almost bit me. I already said once they all move in with me, if he breaks one thing, pees on the floor or goes to bite one person, he is going to a no-kill shelter. He was a resue as a puppy. the breeder brought him to my BFs former job to be put to sleep because he couldn't sell him because of a defect he has in his eye (its hard to notice but the breeder couldn't sell him and didn't want him) so my BF said he couldnt see putting the dog to sleep over a little defect and the guy told him he could have the dog. The guy just failed to mention that the dog doesnt listen either, but my BF is working on him.

Better shot of Taz's eyes .. the only way you can tell he's a merel. Yellow is not a recognized color in the Aussie world and they aren't seen that often because of it, so it makes him a little unique.

The mini-donkeys look like Donkey from the Shrek Movies. They are Sicilian Donkeys and stand about as tall as my Great Dane. They are loud, especially in the winter months when there is not as much grass in the pasture. It took over 1 year for them to start braying and the male really only bray's about once a month. The female is the loud mouth and in the winter with no leaves her bray carries into town. They are like great big dogs and love people. We have not trained them to pull carts or anything, we basically just love on them and let them eat the pasture.
