Question Birthday Party help!

We are having a 13th birthday party for our DS in our neighborhood clubhouse! He would kind of like a luau theme. I want the party to be very classy, BUT like anyone want to keep the cost down as much as possible! I need good teenage food ideas. I do have a chocolate fountain, and I make birthday cakes so I won't have to buy that! I also need to know what kind of favors to give out ! We are getting a DJ, so I guess the kids will be dancing! This is my oldest child so i don't know what to do w/ teenagers! lol

Any suggestions for any aspect of the party would be appreciated!

TIA,
Kristie:

I don't know if favors are even necessary at that age. Especially if you wanna keep the budget down. Why not put the money you were going to spend on favors to get some extra food, or rent a machine that will make frozen virgin cocktails?? They should get a kick out of that.

At my sons 16th party his choice of food was pizza, wings and dorritos. We did that and a sub platter. Did your son give you any preferences? At 16 we didnt do goodie bags just sent everyone home with left overs

We just had DS 13 birthday. He would not let me do a "theme". I was informed that was to kiddish. We did mainly finger food. Let's see if I remember what we had. Taco bar, Nacho's & Cheese, different kinds of chips. Geesh I can't remember and it was less than a month ago. LOL

I did a little looking around and here are some ideas:

1. Fruit Smoothies - The children will work together to make their own tropical drink. Suggested ingredients:
Mango juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, frozen banana pieces, frozen strawberries, mango pieces, pineapple, papaya, coconut...Place the items into a blender with ice and mix.
Top with whipped cream, cherry and a paper umbrella.

2. Hand out leis.

3. Limbo

4. One thing we did do. I sat my Sony Handycam out and let each guest wish him a happy birthday.

5. Serve authentic hawaiian foods.

6. Have all guests names translated to Hawaiian. Find your name in Hawaiian....English to Hawaiian name translations!

HTH,
Laura

Thanks you guys! I think I will do a taco bar, and I love the video camera idea! I thought maybe we could burn cd's of his favorite songs to pass put and maybe have thanks for coming to Tylers party on the cover, but not sure! I think a drink machine rental would be very fun too! We have a kareoke machine I didn't think of that!

For my DDs 13th last year it was luau themed too. I purchased a lot decorations through Oriental Trading and on Ebay. I also bought bright neon orange, green, blue, yellow and pink balloons and streamers at WalMart. Since this was also a sleepover it was girls only, 16 of them! We served fruit kabobs, hot dogs, orange chicken (from a box at Costco and oh so yummy!), rainbow goldfish, chips and punch. Kids did the limbo, karaoke and just basic girly talk. We also played the game where I had purchased enough prizes for 1 per kid and wrapped them so they couldn't tell what was in ther, each kid draws a number and #1 gets to choose the first and #2 can take #1's gift or unwrap and gift and so on. A gift can only be 'taken' twice. Make sense?
If I remember any more I'll post again. My brain is mush as I am now planning for my youngest DDs 13th which is a Premier Red Carpet Bday party.
GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!
