Voting for Senator Clinton thread II

Since the last thread passed the threshold at which we close them for system performance reasons, here's another one to continue the discussion.

Found this interesting article this morning:
Ouch! Hillary Clinton's softer image is clawed over dumped cat - Times Online

Given the Ellen and Iggy interest, I thought it appropriate... From the article:

Clinton’s treatment of Socks cuts to the heart of the questions about her candidacy. Is she too cold and calculating to win the presidency? Or does it signify political invincibility by showing she is willing to deploy every weapon to get what she wants?

“In the annals of human evil, off-loading a pet is nowhere near the top of the list,” writes Caitlin Flanagan in the current issue of The Atlantic magazine. “But neither is it dead last, and it is especially galling when said pet has been deployed for years as an all-purpose character reference.”

Flanagan’s article, headed No Girlfriend of Mine, points out that Clinton wrote a crowd-pleas-ing book Dear Socks, Dear Buddy: Kids’ Letters to the First Pets, in which she claimed that only with the arrival of Socks and his “toy mouse” did the White House “become a home”.
Being an animal lover with two dogs, I don't really like her treatment of Socks -- using her cat as a puppet -- a sock puppet

Here's one about Romney
(given the Ellen/Iggy interest also)
Romney's Cruel Canine Vacation - TIME

From the article:

Quote:
The incident: dog excrement found on the roof and windows of the Romney station wagon. How it got there: Romney strapped a dog carrier — with the family dog Seamus, an Irish Setter, in it — to the roof of the family station wagon for a twelve hour drive from Boston to Ontario, which the family apparently completed, despite Seamus's rather visceral protest.
Quote:
PETA does not have a position on Romney's candidacy per se, but Newkirk called the incident "a lesson in cruelty that was ... wrong for [his children] to witness...Thinking of the wind, the weather, the speed, the vulnerability, the isolation on the roof, it is commonsense that any dog who's under extreme stress might show that stress by losing control of his bowels: that alone should have been sufficient indication that the dog was, basically, being tortured."
ETA: It was known during the Clinton pres. tenure that Buddy and Socks did not get along. When they moved out of the White House, they decided to give it to their longtime friend who knows and had contact with Socks. To an animal lover, isn't good? At least they did not take it to a shelter, or dump it at the side of the road somewhere.
I don't know if Socks was a 'prop'. It's possible. It's also possible that they loved and tried to create a home for the cat and it was not a good fit.

Hillary and Bill Clinton gave Socks, their White House pet away when the cat was no longer publicly needed as a prop..hummmmmm

We are seeing the soft maternal side of the woman who would be president. lol

"Senator" Hillary Clinton wrote a book Dear Socks, Dear Buddy: Kids’ Letters to the First Pets, in which she claimed that only with the arrival of Socks and his “toy mouse” did the White House “become a home”.
Guess it wasnt a real home once the presidency was up. Wow. Talk about cold-blooded calculation. The cat as prop for exactly as long as required and not a moment longer.

I would not vote for her. Her personality does not appeal to me.

Lets say I voted for Mr. Clinton the second time...and Greg can't get over it today. I won't be voting for Mrs. Clinton - no way because of him, just I don't believe in what she believes in.

Great post and great points!

If this is the kind of stupid stuff that this "journalist" is going to dredge up as evidence of Sen. Clinton's fitness to be president . . . heaven help us all!

The Clintons were far kinder to Socks that Rudy Giuliani was to his second wife, that's for sure! At least the Clintons found Socks a home . . . and didn't call a press conference to announce that the cat was history. Would that Rudy had even that much class.

I sure do know who Sean Hanity is... Don't always agree with him but many times I do.

Where have you been -- that's been the anthem since January 2001.
