Question ? About Ins. Covering Adult Diapers?

My aunt had a Hysterectomy (sp?) last November on her 47th Bday
and the doctor nicked her bladder
and she has had 2 or 3 surgeries trying to repair it
no luck so far
The new doctor at a different hospital is optimistic for this time to work
she had a catheter vaginal and pubic i believe
but neither right now
She is using at least 7 Serenity brand Adult underwear a day and get expensive
even with sales and coupons
I get her
Since it is a medical problem would health insirance cover these (she has pretty good ins. too)
I know my friends son had pull ups sent right to their house
and another friends son is autistic and gets them sent to the house too but I think thats through
the childrens special health care insurance
sorry so long
just hoping to help her
Thanks for any info Suzanne

I doubt anyone can answer that for certain. All insurance coverage is different. The best thing is to call the insurance company and/or talk to her doctor. Someone in the doc's office that handles insurance might be able to tell more. But you are probably going to end up calling the provider no matter what.

Most insurance will not cover the cost of diapers for adults, not even medicare...in some cases medcaid will cover for diapers, usually though only if the problem was there before the age of 18, and if they are in nursing homes etc.
Medcaid in most states will pay for diapers after the age of 3 with 2 dxs for children...i.e. wrote as a secondary dx..such as
CP and incontice
Autism and incontice..<sp?>
But there has to be a first DX of something before they will pay...
In some cases e-bay will be a cheap place to go....
Youi might also try Free Cycle in your area for somone who has some left from a relative etc.

Most of my clients pay for them outa pocket since their insurance will not cover it . Medicare dont cover them any longer either. They have classified them as a non nessarity item,

Can she make the doctor who screwed up pay? Was it a known risk of the surgery? If not, I'd be sending him or her the bills -- at least.

I think they make you sign for every possible thing that could have any possibility of happening
She should get compensated
But shes afraid if she does anything no other doctor around would ever see her
Shes seen many doctors
the ob
cancer doctor that deals with the female problems
urologist
(The urologist didn't do much good)
This will be the third hospital she has been dealing with
I feel so sorry for her
I hope they figure it out
she is soo afraid she will have to wear a catheter or adult diapers for the rest of her life
shes way to young for that
Thanks Suzanne
What she told me they will do for the next surgery is strange but I hope to god it works
