Barack on patriotism

Quote from CNN on Barack not wearing an american flag lapel pin:

CNN) – An astute reporter for CNN affiliate KCRG-TV noticed there was something missing from Sen. Barack Obama’s wardrobe. He wasn’t wearing the common American flag lapel pin, a fashion fixture in post-9/11 politics used to display patriotism following the attacks.

"I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest,” the Democratic presidential candidate told the reporter Tuesday in Iowa City, Iowa. “Instead, I'm going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great. Hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism."

Obama touched upon the exchange again Wednesday at a speech in Independence, Iowa.

"I haven't worn that pin in probably a very long time. I wore it right after 9/11. But after a while, you start noticing people wearing the lapel pin but not acting very patriotic,” he said. “My attitude is that I'm less concerned with what you're wearing on you lapel than what's in your heart. You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those ones who serve."

". But after a while, you start noticing people wearing the lapel pin but not acting very patriotic,” he said. “

Could this picture show Barack not acting very patriotic????For a citizen of this country to choose not to pledge allegiance is a first amendment free speech right. However, for a politician who is running for the highest office of the land, he should show his allegiance to this great country, our people, our military, and the fallen troops who have laid down their lives for our freedom..... You have to wonder if Obama were to become Commander in Chief, to whom would his allegiance belong? Unbelievable....shows blatant disrepect for this country and the office of President....Sherri

That just creeps me out. I honestly considered voting for him until all of this new information came to light. Why is Oprah promoting him? I don't want someone in office that may have divided loyalities. I may seem old fashioned but I think that immigrants and citizens should show loyality and respect to our country. While I don't agree with lots of things our country does, but I am proud to be a citizen.

I doubt you were seriously considering him if you let this change your mind. This is the latest "hot button" topic being used to change the focus on a candidate and what they are saying. Talk about an unimportant issue. Forget about wearing a stupid lapel pin and concentrate on some real issues. People are being killed in Iraq, Darfur is a total mess, we need health care for our children, we need to improve our educational system, we need to reign in the spend and spend government we have now, we need to do more about our cities infrastructures, find cures for many diseases and many many other things that are far more important than a lapel pin and who is wearing one. Reminds me of high school and all the cliques and catty remarks.

I agree.

I totally understand the Senator's feelings about pseudo patriots wearing flag lapel pins. I'm sure there are people who think about what they're doing when they pin the flag on their lapel or slap a yellow ribbon on their car but sadly I think there are plenty who consider the flag and the ribbon little more then "fashion" accessories.

BTW, the picture of the Senator standing was taken NOT during the pledge of allegience but during the playing of the national anthem Typically, the picture has taken on a life of its own on various right wing websites where posters seems to have trouble discerning the difference between the two.

a picture can be seriously misconstrued... I would be more willing to form an opinion with a video of the allegations

I guess I am confused Sen Barack is not patriot because he doesn't wear a flag pin made in China or that he didn't place his hand over his heart during the American anthem ( but stand and showed his respect)???

To me this is a non-issue!! It must be a slow news week if they are discussing clothing accessories and were someone places their hands. To me this is what is wrong with our media/political analyst, were they want to talk about anything other then the real issues!

There are a lot of people who consider this attack against Iraq as a "Crusade." Indeed, even Bush has referred to it as such.

And, no, ProudUSAMama, you misinformed troll, Obama is not a Muslim, never has been. He's a Christian. That little rumor is another product of the right wing smear machine.

I have to agree that wearing a flag pin made in China does nothing to make one a patriot.

You're a hoot! And so predictable. And, as usual, so wrong.
