What to wear to a job inverview?

What is considered appropriate these days to wear to an interview? I'm just looking for a part-time job at a store at the mall or at Wegman's (grocery store) for the holidays so I don't think a suit and heels are necessary, or are they? The last job interview I had was 15 years ago and it was for a corporate position so I dressed the part, Somehow, I don't think that will be necessary now, but I'm not sure. I've been a SAHM for the past nine years so I'm really out of the loop. Any advice?

I suggest going with one step up from whatever is the normal attire for employees at the place that you are interviewing. By that I mean if the normal attire is pants and uniform t-shirt...I'd go khakis and a shirt or sweater. If the normal attire is khakis and a polo, maybe wear dress slacks and top. If the dress is business casual, I'd add a jacket over the dress outfit.

There are some exceptions, but I think it's a reasonably good rule of thumb. Shows some respect.

Good luck interviewing!

You always dres "UP" for an interview a suit is highly reccommended even if you wouldn't wear that in the actual job. If you go too casual it is considered unprofessional. Just my 2 cents!

I say just wear a nice blouse/sweater & a nice pair of pants. For shoes, wear nice shoes that are practical as well (in other words no need for 3 inch heels).

I totally agree with this advice!

of course if I wear heels to the interview, that will be the last time they see me in those

I am currently going through the same thing. I am currently working, but have not been on a job interview in about 15 years. I have begun interviewing in the last week.

I am applying mainly for teachers aide positions and have been wearing a skirt, sweater and dress shoes.

I think any of the above suggestions sound fine.

I have been on 2 interviews and the second one went so much better than the first. I have a third one in the morning.

Good luck!

I say wear khakis & a nice shirt I know they say always dress up but I truly do better when I am not dressed up even for a professional job I do better in nice jeans & a nice shirt as strange as that seems its the way it has gone for me
