CA fires

I know we have members in CA. Anyone able to check on them?

I live in Maryland. My son and daughter-in-law live in Texas. Her parents both live in CA. Her father lost his house but he is ok. Her mother has not had a problem. She also has siblings and step siblings in the area. They are all ok.

This is just crazy. We believe our house is in a safe area. My dh called a little while ago and they are evacuating about 1/2 mile from where he works. So we wait to see what's going to happen. Glad to hear your dil family is okay. Everyone stay safe.

Update: I just spoke to dh and they haven't heard anything further. The wind seems to have died down so hopefully they got it under control before more evacuations had to be done.

skeevylorrie,

I have not seen any news about fires up in that area. I live in Murrieta and the closest one to us is still in Temecula. I would estimate we are 20 to 30 miles away from San Jacinto.

My Cousins are in Visalia they say they are safe, but they could get some of the smoke from the fires, this is just horrible the destruction etc.

We have been lucky so far. The closest fire is about 15 miles away from us. There is a lot of smoke and we were just notified that schools will be closed the rest of the week. They have already been off Mon. and Tues. The carnival will be postponed for a week. The big fires in 2003 were much worse for us. We are in a basin with hills on three sides. That fire was all around us. Some of the same areas that burnt in 2003 are on fire again. This time they are doing much better letting people know to evacuate. Some people in the back country didn't stand a chance last time.

From what I have seen of the people who evacuated to QuallComm Stadium, that part of it is going very well. I'm happy to see that, and just sad to see all the destruction. That's got to be tough to live in an area like that, prone to fires.

I hope they are able to get a handle on this soon.

Do you ever have anything half way decent to say? Apparently your church has issues too because I can not beleive that a church would make a comment like that. How would you feel if it were your house that could be burning to the ground??? There are people in California are loosing their homes. If you can't say anything remotely decent (I know for you it may be hard but at least try) just stay quiet. My thoughts are with all of the people involved.

WOW I can't believe a church would say such a thing. I am sure if you were in this situation you would think differently. What a terrible thing to say.

My prayers and thoughts are with all that are involved in these fires. Hopefully the winds will die down and they can get a handle on these things.

I can't believe I fed a troll...I should know better.

I did see on the news where 1 person has been arrested for setting one of the fires, I believe it was set close to a highway.

I feel so badly for everyone involved, this is terrible for the firefighters and rescue workers. Going on 36 hrs without sleep.

A coworker of mine has a daughter @ Camp Pendleton. She managed to send a text message indicating her barracks had burned to the ground and they were transporting all sorts of stuff off the base. A relative in Fountain Valley says the smoke is heavy in the air, but they are safe for now. My thoughts and prayers are with everybody out there. How horrible it must be.

I would be finding a NEW church then...

I talked to my friend yesterday and she said its just so sad and crazy... the hotel she works for has a no pet policy but due to the circumstances they've lifted this rule...

I can't fathom the loss and fear people are experiencing...

My friend is a firefighter out there. He was a smoke-jumper for the fires in 2003 and was actually on Larry King for saving a baby during the mud slides.

I'm watching the news constantly. These poor firefighters are doing everything they can for these people. It is so sad to watch.

Hmmm I wonder what that church said about the fires a few months ago in Georgia? What was the reason for their 'payback?
Maybe a handful of them, like the people in Cali who are losing their homes, hate America too (per Glenn Beck)?

Sad situation right now. For those affected, please know you are in our thoughts

my parents and brother are on vacation in Carlsbad which is near San Diego. She said that the air is so smokey...malls are shut down and the evacuees are staying in their timeshare condo. My brothers friend's mom has a fiare 1/4 mile away and he is trying to help her pack for evacuation. The fire is 4 miles from his friend's house. We know 3 people who have lost their homes already and my cousins are housing some family members who are evacuated. My grandparents in Newport Beach say it's raining ask and soot It's so horribly sad...I told my mom to get out (so she doesn't get stuck in the freeway is closed) and go to Vegas. She keep having asthma attacks

Cuthie, didn't know you could "ignore"...THANKS

I started this thread because I have always found this board to be supportive of its members. I found it around the time of 911. Since I live in the DC area both 911 and the sniper the following year were very trying times. Being a teacher I was also responsible for children. At the end of the day, I always knew that there would be someone with words of encouragement.

Although I only met my dil's father once (at my son's wedding), I still feel bad for him that he lost his home. I am glad that everyone is ok. I know it would be difficult for my dil if something would have happened. She is about 6 weeks away from delivering our first grandchild.

My class prays everyday for the people that are going through this situation.

It's bad here. My Austin is on voluntary evacuation and my grandma is with her. So far I do not kow anyone that has lost a home but that could change. I am thankful the winds have finally dies down. With steady winds at 80 mph it was scary for a while.

I think this person (ProudUSAMama) is a troll with no intentions or actually trying to have any sort of intellectual chit chat. I would be shocked to know someone could really feel that way. I would (and did) just put her/him/it on your Ignore list. They are getting way too much mileage out of there trash posts.

I live in the Murrieta/Temecula area. All schools are closed tomorrow. The cities need them for evacuation centers. The fires seem to be getting better, but smoke and ash are worse. Take care everyone.

religious people like you who only show judgment and none of Gods love give christians a bad name! while there are some of us who live our lives as someone who would point the way to hope, love and forgiveness! people already know when they are wrong but need to know that there is a merciful God who loves and forgives them.

I know reading such garbage gets under your skin, especially when you have family or friends in peril, but responses with feeling is what these trolls get off on. If everyone would just ignore such postings they would get boored and go away.

Prayers for all those who are affected by these horrible fires.
