Wow, it was announced today that there is a raging fire in our county. This is only about 10 miles (if that far) from my home. The area has already been declared a disaster area. We live in a very rural farming area. We have also been declared a disaster area due to the drought. As of yesterday, the weatherman said that we would need at least 10 inches of rain to get us beyond the drought point level. Over the summer, a local plant closed up and over 3000 folks lost their jobs. This was the 2nd closing within a 3 mile radius. Both of these factories were the largest employers in the surrounding towns/counties. There is 3 cases of MRSA in our Middle School....which my son attends. There is also 1 known case at the Elementary school.... which my other son attends. I really don't ever remember hearing so much tragedy like these fires, droughts, economic hard times, etc. This really makes me stop to wonder Has the USA always had such chatastrophe and I didn't realize it or is it because I am becoming older and paying more attention to the world? Or what? I guess it could be that we've never been really hit by such things all at one time and now, I have been forced to pay attention.I have often read and seen such events on the news, online, etc. But I guess I have never really been faced with the fact / possibility / probability that it could 'actually' happen here. I just hope and pray that things will get better for everyone.

Yea I remember growing up in Va Beach (won't go into how long ago that was, just say it was more then 15yrs ago ) We had a glass sliding door to our porch. One year, it snowed so much that we couldn't see out that door. Of course, that was a snow drift, but the rest of it was almost as high. I seem to remember having at least one snow every year in Va. Now I live in TN and it NEVER snows where I am. I kinda miss it |
