So I thought I would buy DH an ipod/mp3, now I'm confused

His b'day is tomorrow so I am working on borrowed time here I thought brilliantly I would get him an ipod/ mp3 player. Having never even looked at, much less payed attention to them I have no idea where to start to pick one for him.

Give me the 411 on mp3's!!

He will really only want music downloads and will use it at the gym. Thanks!!!!!!!!

How much music does he have?

I've owned small, inexpensive MP3 players and a Dell DJ. But I have to admit I love my Ipod. If he will really only use it at the gym, then it really doesn't matter much which way you go. Any of them will play music. However, if you think he will want to use it for other things -- playing in the car, the home stereo etc. You can't beat an Ipod (the one you pick is basically dependent upon how much music your husband will want to load up on it) because of the huge number of 3rd party things you can buy for it.

I've got a docking station for the home stereo, it connects to my car etc. So if it really is just for the gym it doesn't matter, but if it will have life outside of the gym, go with an Ipod.

I was thinking up to $150

He would use it in the office and in the car too.

If I have to buy it at B&M (in the morning!) which is my best store to start at?

Apple® - iPod® nano 4GB* MP3 Player - Silver - MA978LL/A

BestBuy or Circuit City will have the biggest selection Prices will be about the same. The link above is to one exactly at your price point. If he has a lot of music, I'd spend a little more and get the Ipod classic.

SanDisk e260 won my vote!

ohhhhhhhh, there's a thread about a month old where I asked exactly the same question for a surprise for my now 15 yo dd.

This is what I bought that she LOVES!!! (note that it was on sale for $60 less, yay)

Buy the SanDisk e260 4GB Digital Audio Player and other Other MP3 players at circuitcity.com

It's slick, bright, easy to use, and she loves the ability to be able to show pictures/slide shows/etc to friends with very little effort.

I'm now contemplating it for my 16 yo son for Christmas - I hope it goes back on sale, but will still consider it at this price.

Get the iPod if you can afford it. You won't be sorry!

Here is a list of Apple certified refurbished iPods. I bought one from them it was perfect, like brand new

The Apple Store (U.S.)

I agree, go with the iPod. There are different kinds depending on how much music you wish to hold. I would go to the store and ask someone who works in the electronics department which one works best for your DH.

I have an Ipod, and a Sansa.....I love my Sansa, and if he likes to keep up to date on music, he can get a subsription, that allows you keep changing the music on your mp3 player, and just pay a monthly fee.....that is what we do (you cannont burn the music to cd though) I find myself too limited with my Ipod. The ipod is basically what I keep my music library on.....(music I own)

Good Luck!

I have the 8 gig, and I think he'll love it, does it also have an expansion slot? If so if he runs out of room he can just get a mini sd card to keep adding to it.....
