Smile Have you or your teen tried Proactiv?

Have your or your teen tried Proactiv? DS is having a heck of a time. Did it work well? Do you have to have all the products or are just certain ones enough? How about canceling if it's not working for him, is it a pain to cancel?

Thanks,
Laura

My daughter tried it for one year and she had very poor results. She followed the directions to the "T" but it still didn't work for her. I had no trouble at all cancelling when the time came.

Now my sister on the other hand uses it and has had AWESOME results with it.

For my daughter, we ended up having to take her to a Dermatologist and get her on an antibotic to help with her acne.

Good luck, I hope you find something that works for your son.

Did not work at all for my daughter and she used it faithfully and entirely correctly for over six months before giving up. She, too, went to the doc and got a scrip for meds and that has helped much more (and with our health insurance is even less per month than the ProActiv).

My DS used it for a long time religiously with no results at all. We ended up taking him to the dermatologist and they got him taken care of. We really should've taken that route first as it wouldn't have gotten out of control and harder to clear up.

My son had really bad acne and begged me to get this for him. We got it and it worked ok. I took him to a skin doc and he got antibiotics and differen gel and that worked much better for him. Only bad thing with the gel was his face dried out alot at first but after awhile it got much better.

I had mild adult acne and it worked great, however when I recommended it to my newphew whose acne was severe, it barely worked. He ended up going to the doctor that gave him a topical cream that cleared him up in a matter of a month.

Just a suggestion from our experience...

Before going that route, try finding an over-the-counter with the active ingredient 'Benzoyl Peroxide'. Inexpensive and recommended by my nephew's dermatologist.

Stridex makes some cleansing pads (1% BP) and some stores sell a cream (10% BP around $3.00). I found cream at K-Mart.

Benzoyl Peroxide works. Even works on the deep deep ones.

Best of luck, ouch.

I have mild, stubborn adult acne and tried Proactiv. I was less then impressed. I started using AcneFree and it works much better for me. It is cheaper and you do not have to pay shipping. They carry it at Walmart, CVS and such.

I find using JUST Benzoyl Peroxide dries out my skin and just makes it produce more oil and even a bit sore. Maybe that is just me

Forgot to say... Benzoyl Peroxide will bleach the color out of fabric... Be sure that you use white fabrics if you don't want to ruin towels and pillow cases.

I noticed that it is the active ingredient in Proactiv and AcneFree.

There are generic store brands available.

Waste of money in my opinion. DD used with no results. Dermatologist said BP 10% and much cheaper. Had nice clear results. Sorry I got this proactiv for a good year UGH!

We've been to the doctor once. She put him on and antibotic and a cream. Before the doctor we tried all the creams at Walmart along with the Mens Mary Kay line for men. They really didn't do much if anything. Evidently he and some other kid was talking at school and this kid is using Proactiv with great results. (I mean for DS to talk with a kid about it it must have been dramatic.) Anyway, he came home with "the miracle cure". I wanted to do a little more research though.

I think I will just bite the bullet and take him to the doc again.

Thanks Everyone,
Laura

It didn't work for DS. We sold the left over at a yard sale.

worked well for one of my kids, did not really work at all for the other.

i used to buy oxi-clean (or some name like that) for myself when i had acne, it has bp also and worked pretty well. did not work for my sis, but she got something prescribed that worked for her - it had stipulations about not using it if you were pregnant and other stuff though.

I bought some for my dd and it worked great; however I used to work at Clinique and I talked to lots of people who said it didnt work for their kids, so they used the Clinique acne line. I then ended up buying that for my dd and she like it better. I love the Clinique line, and its probably the same price or cheaper and its guaranteed.

It has worked very well for my 15 yr old daughter......she had a blackhead problem and cystic acne (great big zit that swells and hurts then bursts) sorry TMI.......

We ran out a couple months ago and had to wait for the shipment---she broke out again right away when she stopped using it, but it cleared up quickly. We think it is well worth the money!

If you child has severe acne please go to a dermatologist. I had severe acne growing up and my parents got me help and it was the best thing they did for me. I have also taken my son. My son had it severly also. We put him on acutane twice and his face looks awesome. I know it has some side effects but the outcome out ways the side effect by far. The only advise I can give to any child with acne is go see a doctor.
